apriltones 03-03-2006, 10:09 AM hi, i have found a diet to lose weight! eat less and cut out wheat!xxx i have lost 8 pounds now Sponsor moonspirit 03-04-2006, 01:44 AM good for you apriltones, keep it up until you reach your target weight. i'm allergic to barley and oats, but fine with wheat. i went through the fashion of cutting wheat out years ago and didnt feel any different, had some allergy testing, amazing what you find you are allergic to, though some i already knew about. ive just looked at that energy quiz thing advertised, they were talking about coffee, soda and sweet things being bad for fibro haha i imagine theyre bad for everything and anything. ive always been intolerant to coffee and alcohol and never had a soda or those soft drinks or anything with aspartame in it. its amazing the claims made. on one site they were blaming soda for people getting multiple sclerosis, must be a lot of gullable people ready all of that. good luck to you nothing cheers a person up than when they are feeling good about themselves, even if its just for a short while. cheers. Glojer 03-05-2006, 11:33 AM Good for you April, keep up the good work. Moonspirit, yes I am positive there are a lot of gullable people and always have been. Use to be called snake oil salesman, now they are called millionaires! The best thing for me for my fibro and diet is to cut out sugar! Including soda and such that has sugar in it. I do my best, but sometimes I weaken! Glojer PollyGirl 03-20-2006, 09:42 AM I followed a low carb diet for almost 3 years but my only weight loss was during the first 6 months then it stopped dead in it's tracks. I have gained it all back despite reduced carbs and calories AND running 6 miles a day. It was then that I knew something was wrong with me. Now I can barely walk a mile without extreme pain and tiredness. Best Wishes to you and your continued weight loss :) Glojer 03-20-2006, 12:02 PM Fibro is such a lovely disease, not only do we deal with the pain but we have weight problems on top it. The only thing to do is keep trying and keep a positive attitude. Glojer mel1977 03-20-2006, 11:39 PM you know, I gained 20 pounds after my back surgery in 2004 and finally I am trying so hard to lose that weight. It is driving me crazy. I walk on my treadmill nearly daily and use weights and my balance ball and any changes? NADA. I am so frustrated. I have always been able to lose weight when I needed to, and eat what I want for the most part (being somewhat smart about it), but this year it just isn't happening. I am awful tired these days though-not getting any additional energy from my workouts. Jeeze, I wake up feeling okay then around eleven am I am hit by the sleep train and can barely keep my eyes open in class and the rest of the day is like that. AND, I don't, refuse, to fall asleep. ]That has got to be a part of it. Glojer 03-21-2006, 05:40 PM Mel have you had your thyroid checked? If your thyroid is not functioning properly weight loss, no matter how hard you try, is a losing proposition with some people. If you have the doc check your TSH and Free T4 and Free T3 get a copy of the results. Most women feel the best when their TSH is between 1 and 3. The lab guidelines are usually between 0.5 and 5.5 and if your TSH is at 5.0 the doc will usually say oh everything is fine. Not so, I have worked with my endocrinologist to get my TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) down to 0.99 and believe me I can tell the difference if it gets over 1.3 or 1.5. As she was increasing my synthyroid my TSH stayed around 2.5 and I just really didn't have any energy or feel well. Finally it went down to .99 and I knew before she read the blood test it was in a good range for me. You should also have your Free T's in the upper 70% of the range, my FT3 is a tiny bit low, but certainly good for me. Symptoms of underactive thyroid are many, but hair loss (I lost the hair on my arms and legs, and the ends of my eyebrows plus my eyebrows got thin and my eyelashes got thin but I have lots of hair on my head so I didn't notice a problem with that) weight gain even when trying to lose, lack of energy , tired and want to sleep all the time, joint pain, insomnia, lack of concentration. Lots of the same symptoms as fibro. Anyway trying to stay on topic here, I wanted to let you know if your thyroid is not functioning properly it is so hard to get your heart rate up even with all the exercise and weight loss is nearly impossible. I know how you guys feel, I am very frustrated with trying to lose weight. Glojer mel1977 03-21-2006, 07:43 PM I had my TSH checked but did not ask what it was-was told it was normal. I have NOT however had my FT4/3 checked. I may ask my dr on Friday about it, I have a lot again to chat with him about. I really wish I did have more energy-andthis weather isn't making things better! Glojer 03-23-2006, 12:33 PM Mel most docs will say it is normal if it falls anywhere in the lab range. My old gp (he moved his practice or I would still be seeing him) was a great doc but when he looked at my tsh test he said it was fine. I believed him, and he really thought it was fine because that is the way he was taught in school. But I felt awful, and a good friend clued me in on the thyroid situation so I went to an endocrinologist. At the time my tsh was 4.9 (that is where my doc said it was fine or normal) the endo took one look at it and said this is too high we need to get the tsh down under 3. Believe me I could have cried I was so happy to finally have someone to work with me to get my thyroid in the right place. Until that happened I could not begin to feel better and work on my fibro and other problems. I now see an osteopath and they are good docs to help with thyroid also. I know it sounds wierd, but that is the way medical school trains docs. If it is within the lab range you are normal or fine, but everyone is an individual and some people need their tsh at different levels. Women are best between 1 and 3 but I have to be down close to one to feel normal I have talked to women who are fine in the two range, we are all individuals. Ask your doc what your tsh number was he should have that in your chart. Good Luck on Friday. Glojer |
