If you're talking about PVC's, in general, they're harmless, unless you have heart disease. I get them every now and then. A lot of normal healthy people experience that heart flutter feeling. If it happens a lot or continues for a long time, or just bothers you too much, there's medication that can control it.

Hiya april,

Yes I agree with cookie. Palpitations and things like this can be brought on by any number of things. I doesn't mean they are actually related to any heart problem, nor does it have a connection most of the time with having a medical condition. Some medications can cause this to happen. If you have bought any OTC meds, then make sure they don't interact with any of your other pills.

ALso anxiety or stress can cause this to happen, and if you can learn to identify what it is that is bothering you, then this will help. Relaxation techniques too might be beneficial to you. I know when you are stressed or anxious, relaxing is this is nigh on impossible to do but you need to have coping strategies with this.

If it is very worrying then arrange for a heart scan. This might put your mind at rest.

Take care.

I have palpitations alot, & sinus tachycardia (fast heartbeat,) but all of my tests so far have come back normal. Palpitations are a normal occurance for most people, but I feel that mine are deffinately related to the fibro. The worse shape that I am in & the more pain that I am in, the worse they get :(

ive never had palpitations, but my mother does, she has unstable angina caused by arrythmia, the arrythmia caused by her node which is the pacemaker being in the wrong place, she was born with that condition. so her blood circulates differently than those of us with the pacemaker in what is i suppose called the usual position.

sometimes a doc will prescribe a beta blocker for palpitations, i warn against it if you don't have a heart condition.

if i had palpitations i would want to get to the reason why, i would ask a doc for an ecg etc., a 24 hour monitor etc., a cardiologist depending on the results.

oh i taught my mother to meditate and do breathing exercises which help her, but theyre no substitute for finding out what may be wrong and taking meds. she's as stable as can be now, but only because she took her cardiologists advice and meds.

Hiya again april,

Just a little bit more information for you. Perhaps it will put your mind at rest a little.

If you have palpitations, you feel your heart beating very fast or irregularly. The problem is often worse at night because when you are lying in bed, you become more aware of your heartbeat. Some people find it a very uncomfortable sensation. And those who suffer from palpitations often worry, which can add to this sensation.

As long as your heartbeat is regular and the rate isn't too fast or too slow (normal is between 60 and 80 beats per minute), everything is probably fine. If not, it may be worth having your doctor take a quick look.

Common causes for palpitations can even be too much caffeine or alcohol. An overactive thyroid gland can also set off heart palpitations. Your doctor can check your thyroid gland with a simple blood test. Or he might suggest an ECG (or electrocardiogram), which is a measure of your heart's activity.

Hope this helps. Please try not to worry too much.

I quit drinking caffeine last year for the same reason. My heart would start beating very fast and would last sometimes 20 seconds and sometimes as much as 5 minutes. It drove me crazy. I have not had any testing done on my heart but I quit caffeine to see if it helped. It did help some, however, I started drinking just one can of coke at lunchtime, about 2 months ago, and only once did it start palpitating again and that was last night. I was just standing in my kitchen and it started up. Ugh. I'm still trying to figure out if I have fibro so not sure I can help you much if it's related to fibro or not. I just wanted to let you know you aren't alone! p.s. I'd love to know if it's related too. I asked that question myself on my own post here. :)

Take care.

Hi April: not sure if you were referring to me when asking that question. I'm assuming so. But, if you see my post, Others keep telling me it's stress....I don't think so, you'll see my history and all I've had. I can't get into the Rheum. until April 18th! Ugh.

Take care.
