View Full Version : Looking for gastroenterologist, problems with constipation

Hello,

Currently, I'm looking for a gastroenterologist to get my dad a colonoscopy. However, he is having some other problems.

When my dad went to see his doctor, the doctor prescibed Cipro (due to painful constipation) for 10 days, and asked him to get over the counter Anusol, now called Tucks (Hemorrhoidal Ointment). While my dad was on Cipro and Anusol, there was no pain, and no constipation. Now, my dad has finished Cipro and Tucks? While there is no more painful constipation, there is still constipation. Must he continue taking Tucks? Also, my dad went to the pharmacy few days ago, and they didn't even have Tucks (Hemorrhoidal Ointment). What substitutes do you recommend, if my dad has to continue treatment for his constipation?

Thanks once again.

I don't see why the doctor prescribed Cipro it's an antibotic. All that cream is about the same for roids just get the drug store brand. That doesn't help with constipation however. Try All Bran and other fiber riched foods. Magnesium and Flax oil can help or some herbs at a health food store would be best to try..
Best wishes..

Cipro is an antibiotic and will give certain people diaherra so that is possiby
why he constipation went away for a while. Tell him to drink plenty of fluids, especially water, and maybe he can try stool softeners or fiber pills.
Good Luck
