Cardio has me on 10/40 vytorin. I think it's getting cholestorol under control. He isn't pleased with the 6 month results and wants to switch me to 80. My numbers are 208 TC
141 LDC
57 HDC
52 Trig/
I know these numbers aren't perfect but they are a far cry from where I started. I was 476 TC, 354 LDL and only 30 HDC. (1 1/2 yrs. ago)
So I am doing much much better. My total cholestorol has been lower, down to 183. The higher #s are probably because of my eating over the holidays. I also gained weight. I had triple bypass last summer and am doing well since, exercising and all. I have diabetes under good control.
My problem with going to double the dose of vytorin is that it causes me to be constipated, seriously. I have to drink quarts of prune juice to go at all and I do take Colace, but not that often.
I think this high dose that he wants to try will make it much worse. He has given me 6 weeks to get the numbers better. I have started adding a ruby red grapefruit in the morning as new studies have shown it is very good to lower the LDL. What else can I do?
I need to lose the 10 lbs. I gained since Christmas, but it's hard, really hard. I think that might help too. But I have quit smoking and it makes it harder.
Help! Has anyone else experienced constipation with Vytorin?

Cher,
Grapefruit and statins are contraindicated. Probably a half grapefruit won't do much damage but maybe it's better to err on the safe side and skip the daily grapefruit.

Thanks to both of you for your input. I don't think my numbers are bad either, but maybe heart patients are judged on a differtent level.
Lenin I know about the grapefuit/statin thing, but I read that a small amount eaten in the morning probably won't make a difference. I take my vytorin in the evening.Anything to get the numbers lower so I don't have to double my dose.
Anyone else have problems in constipation and vytorin? Any suggestions?
