I know everyone's situation is different but I wonder if those of you who've had dental implants could tell me how many dental appointments it took from start to finish. I've thought about having a dental implant but someone with whom I work is having one implant; she hasn't even had the implant done yet but has taken off for seven dental appointments since December. I don't know what all the appointments have been for, except that they're all related to the one implant. I have dental phobia and can't possibly go to the dentist that many times. So I'm wondering if her case is unusual and maybe I wouldn't need as many appointments. Thanks!

Each case with implants is different because it depends on the Doctor doing them. Some Doctor's place the implants and then cover the implants up with gum tissue and you wait for months wearing a removable denture. Other's place implants then attach the temporary teeth immediately. This is what I had done. I had one visit, followed by an extremely long surgery of 6 hours, followed by a visit the following day to be sure all was ok, followed by stitches being removed 2 weeks later. Because I am 12 hours away from my doctor's, I couldn't go back for 5 months at which I was fitted with my permanent prosthesis. I chose my doctor for his expertise as I feel he is the very best there is.
