Since I started Menapause I have gained 35 lbs. I just was curious to know if many women gain alot of weight during that time in their life. Could some of you give me some feedback?

This is a sensitive subject with me because I'm really trying to get the 50 something pounds off that I've gained within the last 7 years. I've read that once our hormones become balanced it will be easier to lose the weight. In the meantime I've reduced my carb. intake, not only to shed the pounds, but also I feel better mentally and physically when I eat less carbs. Since going into perimenopause carbs. tend to upset my digestive system and make me feel sluggish. You might want to read some of the previous posts on weight gain and you might find some helpful suggestions. :)

Yep I'm perimenopause, should be getting close to the end soon. I was just thinking yesterday if the extra weight is from menopause. I've gained alittle over 20 lbs in 2 years. Thats not normal for me.

I gained about 20 lbs. in the past 4+ years. It is so difficult to get off especially in the winter.

I am walking about 3 miles/day in addition to lifting weights. I don't eat a whole lot but the pounds just keep coming. I hope that someone can give us some good advice.

After going through this whole process with no medical intervention, I just yesterday found a wonderful women doctor, that gives me hope for the misery, including a 20 something pound weight gain, all in my midsection! Due to the press about the horrors of HRT right when I reached the age of needing to think about it, I have taken nothing. After a highly restrictive diet for over a year, and a loss of only 16lbs, I went yesterday demanding my thyroid be checked. At no time in my live have I eaten heathier, less and exercised! I knew that something else is going on. She explained bio-idential hormones to me, which I thought were just the same as HRT. I am going to take the test to get a reading on my hormones and get the stuff compounded for me specially. She claims that getting my hormones balanced will be the only way to shake this belly fat. I will let you know if it works. I am keeping my fingers crossed. I don't want to be a blob for the next 30 years!

I have been on bioidentical hormones for a year. I haven't lost weight because of it. It did help alot of my other problems.

Hi Hopeful,

My mother is now post menopause and I'm peri. My mother started to gain some weight and what she did was increase her exercise regimen and weight lifting. She also ate less beef, pork and chicken, increase her intake of vegetables and fruits. Ate less starchy food such as bread and rice and ate whole wheat and brown rice.

She gained only 5 lbs in the last 10 years, she's in pretty good shape.

I started the menopause about 3 1/4yrs ago and I guess I am post menopause now as I haven't had a period in all that time.

I haven't taken any HRT and although I have found I can't eat as much to stay the same weight, my weight is still around 98lbs. However I have noticed that I have changed shape and what fat I have has moved to my middle
