View Full Version : Going Crazy & ITCHING!

I have just decided that I am suffering from some sort of menopause. Normally, I don't take the time to read b/c that is a luxury around here. However, I have become so desparate, I know that the whole family will be better off if I take the time to get help. MENOPAUSE! How can it be time for that already (43 yrs old). I have had the most irregular periods with the worst pms for the last year. I feel like I am losing my mind. PMS two times a month....one time for a week during ovualtion then again b/f my period. The periods are a big build up for little or no flow. In other words, there is very little releif after a cycle.

Recently, I have started itching all over. It is driving me insane and keeps me from sleeping. I have scratched my eyelids so much that I can't wear eye make up b/c they are swollen and rough. I sleep with a hairbrush for scratching my legs and arms at night.

I am mean and grouchy all the time. My family gets the brunt of that. I have always been an energetic, optimistic, organized person....always on the go and loving it. Now, I am so overwhelmed with just trying to organize thoughts in my head. The Gyno said that I was "stressed out" b/c of the kids and my business and prescribed "Xanex"? ...I threw that away. I don't need another problem. I am not depressed or stressed out...nor am I crazy. But, something has changed drastically and I cannot seem to solve it on my own.

Is there anyone else out there with lack of organized thoughts and ability to put things in perspective? It's like pms all the time. Also, the itching? Anyone going through this?

OMG can I relate to you. I am also going crazy, I'm 48 and five months ago developed hives out of the blue, I itch and itch and itch all over all the time every day. I take an antihistamine which really helps, but I hate the thought of having to take pills for the rest of my life! What the hell. it's like my body can't handle anything any longer. Also my lips and eyelids swell, this scares the crap out of me as I think my throat might close. I am PMSing all the time, everything bugs me. Why the itching??? I also have very bad health anxiety so of course I think it's some awful disease, I'm a wreck.

I too itch and get hives- i have urticaria. Do a search on it. I agree - antihistimes help but who wants to take those forever.

I must be well into peri-menopause ... I still have periods pretty regularly .. Have missed about two a few months ago. I'm 51 so it can't be long now. I am however on an anti depressant (Cipralex) and dare not even think about coming off. It keeps me in a wonderful mood about 99% of the time. I do worry about long term use .. but coming off is just not an option ... cos if I so much as forget one tablet .. by evening it is already showing  ... As for the hives ... yep ... had those now for about 3 years ... maybe when we are right through the process they will go .. I'm sure hoping so. Get the hot flushes around 5 or 6am 'some' mornings ... disturbs my sleep ... but I get back to sleep ... so they are not too bad. Dreading summer though cos last summer they were bad and I slept under a fan all night and I'm in Britain where it is not supposed to feel so hot. I'm starting to dream about HRT ... but I'm scared of the risk factor ie breast cancer

I started when I was 43 also. I thought it would happen in just a few years. I'll be 50 this year and I'm still having my periods. I ended up on BCP and then HRT. I had much worse symptoms in the begining than I do now. I've been cutting back on the HRT now. I'm on the lowest dose and I'm ready to take 1 every other day.

does your head itch? and your face? and does it feel like something is crawling in your ears? my head is driving me insane? the head pressure, the tingly scalp, the burning face and nose is all ready to put me over the edge. Dont throw that xanax out, it really helps me when i absolutely am going over the edge. I am 43 and this is becoming a huge nightmare that wont stop. my husband thinks i am crazy, but at least i havent had a crying spell in a while, now i am just mad!!!!!

Foxglove,

I started become grumpy when I upped my exercise... I think it's unused energy that we need to release, well, other than sex. LOL but sounds like you have your hands full already. You may want to start delegating some of your responsibilities... I'm only 41 and I started feeling peri-menopause last year.

Also, what do you mean by itching? Like "downtown"? LOL in any case, any itching is not a good sign. See your OBgyn.
