A few days ago I used the bathroom as I normally would, and I found a fair amount of blood. I thought I just might have a tear because I have had small tears before that often cause my BM to hurt. But then after that I couldn't sit down and it hurt for a while so I got some Preparation H and some wipes and it has felt a little better, but hurts so much when I go to the bathroom. This has only been going on for a few days, but I'm worried. What should I do? I am also increasing my fiber and water intake. Please dont tell me this is a bad sign because I don't want to have surgery or something like that. I'm only 18 and I'm very scared.

If this happened to be a hemorrhoid, would it go away? I hear people that have hemorrhoids not going away and I was just wondering because i don't want this forever if that is what it is. I hear about people "pushing them back in" and that sounds gross. I just want it to go away and have pleasant BMs from now on. Please help me to find a solution!

Well I hate to say it but wishing it would go away probably won't make it go away. You should go see your doctor. No one ever wants to do that but if you want to get better and find out what is really goin on then that is the best thing to do. The longer you wait the worse things may get. The sooner you go the sooner you can start feeling better. Also waiting may turn a simple problem into something more difficult to treat.

I have hemmhoroids and they usually get really bad if I have more then 1 stool a day (and nice soft ones, I never have a problem if they are hard!) And heaven help me if I get diarrhea!! You can sit in a hot bathtub for about a half hour, this shrinks them a bit. I found that if I sit "Indian style" and lean forward for a while, that they seem to go back in... The only thing, if mine bleed a LOT, then that itself shrinks them and I am fine, it is only when they DON'T bleed that I get pain. SO maybe you have an anal fisure - a small tear. This will cause all that. It would explain the pain AFTER all the bleeding, the hurting when you'd sit after that, the hurting to have a bowel movement (hemhorroids don't generally hurt when passing a stool). An anal fisure will definitely go away, but it may take a week or more.

Thank you for all your information! I hope that it is a small tear and not a hemorrhoid. I will just be careful and try to let it heal! Thank you!

I just want to warn you not to try to ignore urges to use the bathroom for fear of ripping this open again (if indeed that is what it is), and just try to push NORMALLY, because you will definitely constipate yourself if you do otherwise - I know! :( You may think it will NEVER heal if you do that, but it will. Have you ever kept pulling a scab off something over and over again? It finally does heal, doesn't it? Well, same thing.
