Has anyone tried Trileptal for chronic anxiety? My psychiatrist says it's been shown to help bad, chronic anxiety. I'm to start on I think 150 mg, whatever the lowest dose is http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

Also, does it cause hair loss like Depakote??

Thanks!!

Hi,

I'm on Trileptal as a mood stabilizer. At my first dose, i had a bad headache and heartburn..but it passed. Each time he raised the dose, i'd have an increase in those symptoms, but less so...and it went away sooner.
You may not have this, though.
I knew nothing about the anxiety part! that's a bonus http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

Delphi:

So, have you noticed any decrease in anxiety?

BTW, I am not bipolar and this med. is also used for that unofficially, i have regular old depression and lifelong BAD anxiety.

Thanks!

Well, it's hard to tell..as I take ativan too, for anxiety.
I have noticed that it helps me sleep, though..? http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hehe..you sleeping too much, buggy? I am always sleepy..on the weekends, I sleep better. Weeknights I wake up several times or have nightmares ( weekends too). If too much is going on in my head, I can't go to sleep.

Maybe it won't have same effect on you. Have you noticed anything?

What side affects are generally associated with this drug?

Hi,

Well, there is certainly HEADACHE, which nothing seems to help.

My shrink keeps upping my dosage and then the headaches start again.

I am assuming that once i am at the dosage that he desires that the headache will go away.

When you first start, you may get constipation, heartburn( really bad heartburn, for me)nausea...
I think that's it with me http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif.

I think it's a good medicine and I am just having to deal with getting used to it. It's been that way, to some degree, with all of the meds i've taken.

Don't knock it http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

Sick headache is gone http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

Why did you go off of the Trileptal? Did it not work well on your depression and anxiety? YOu said before that the headache and stuff lessened after upping it each time.

I read my information for it from the pharmacy that it "lessens the effects of estrogen" or something like that, so to use a "backup method of contraception".

So, because I'm suppressed with continuous BCP's for endometriosis, I cannot fiddle around with estrogen doses! Bummer, because I wanted to try it.
