Sponsor Infinitum 03-10-2006, 01:26 AM Yes, I do pilates and have been for about a year now. However, I do pilates reformer/allegro on the apparatus machine--by Balanced Body. Doing pilates on the reformer and doing it on the mat----there's absolutely no comparison!!! Trust me! I'm now 6 months pregnant and still do it 3 times a week---minus the ab routine. Cardio was losing it's touch and getting very boring and weights were bulking me and not giving me the long lean toned look I wanted. I would give it a try---WELL worth it! :) And the results---if you do it at least 3 times a week for 1 hour---you will SEE the results after 3 weeks or so. I'm still amazed at how well pilates does work. Good Luck! :bouncing: cad2 03-10-2006, 08:36 AM I am pregnant too, 5 months and dr said pilates would be great I run now and lift weights but I find lifting weights tires me easily now and I don't want so much bulk. I have a good pilates book I am going to give it a try. So. there really isn't a difference by doing the mat work only? cad2 03-10-2006, 08:38 AM I am pregnant too, 5 months and dr said pilates would be great I run now and lift weights but I find lifting weights tires me easily now and I don't want so much bulk. I have a good pilates book I am going to give it a try. So. there really isn't a difference by doing the mat work only or would you say the reformer is much better. If yes where did you buy yours? Infinitum 03-15-2006, 01:43 AM I've tried the mat work before and it was definitely challenging, but once you try the refromer machine----you will soon find out it blows the mat workout out of the water. The pilates reformer machine definitely helps maintain the correct posture and spinal alignment as it's easy to lose proper form on the floor. The original pilates was developed on the reformer back in the early 1900's. The pilates on the mat came many years later for more commercial purposes so people and companies could generate money by selling dvd's videos etc... It's still a good system, but by far---the reformer is much more effective as in showing results quicker. As far as maintinging my pre pregnancy body---I've managed to do pretty well. I've gained 2 pounds and I'm 26 weeks and the only parts of my body that have increased in size are my boobs and the belly! Other than that---things are still in place! Whew!!! Keeping my fingers crossed!!! Keep up the work with the pilates---it's definitely well worth it!! When are you due by the way?? I'm due June 25th.... :) Good luck! :) :bouncing: cad2 03-17-2006, 08:23 AM I am due July 15th. Thanks for all the info on the pilates my friend has a reformer that she is longer using she paid over $1500 so she said I could use it and if I like it I will buy it from her. Wish me luck. I have been exercising all the way through so far and I am up 6 pounds so doing pretty good as well. Hope it stays that way as well. Good luck to you and your little one. |
