Disability is not always that easy to get. The Social Security Administration looks at a lot of things when considering if you are eligible to receive benefits. I'm not able to give you any kind of answer as far as your qualifications to receive SSD, but I can tell you a couple things I filed my claim over.

First of all, I think (personal opinion) that age plays a major factor in whether you receive bennefits in your first attempt and not have to appeal a turn down on your claim. I was 57 when I received benefits on the first try, five months after I applied. I was told I would have a review in five to seven years. If it is seven years, I will be 65. My condition is, I've got Irritable Bowel Syndrome with chronic bowel pain every day. I also had lung surgery for the removal of a benign tumor the size of an orange in my left lung. From this procedure I still have what is called chest wall pain and bone pain from the removal of two of my ribs to gain access to the lung. Six months later, I developed a similar tumor in my right lung. The doctors were able to get this reduced and then eliminated by putting me on high doses of Prednisone. That is pretty much my physical condition, but the worst part is the daily chronic pain and sometimes I have very little control of my bowels, which making working very hard.

I hope this gives you some kind of idea what they look for when reviewing cases for disability. If you have questions, I would be glad to try to answer them for you.

What Director said about age playing a major role seems about right.

I was 55 years old when I finally received a fully favorable decision after 3 years for migraines. My state was "backlogged" w/claims. Reason for the delay.
Who knew you get SSD for migraines!!!!! I was floored

I was also told I would have a review in five to seven years.

I was approved on my first try and I'm only 29. My claim was for depression and things went through pretty quickly. I had a lot of documentation to back up my claim - several hospitalizations to psych facilities and two suicide attempts. I'm not so sure it has that much to do with age as it does with having a well documented history of your disability. Good luck!

I was told that 50 is the magic age. I was just turned down with the report stating that at my age I should be able to find some type of work using my arms (the only part of me that works:)). It also depends on your state...each vary greatly and it depends on if your disability is on their list of disabilities or if they have to go through the next several steps to make their determination. You will find all this info at the ssa website the earlier post mentioned.

Good luck and keep us posted,
Lorie
