hELLO eVERYONE,
I really am hoping for some answers from you guys, at least you are real not like these fake, "tend to be professionals"
Ohhhhh, i'm sooo furious right now, i went to see a dentist, reffered by an aquentences of mine, so i figured since i'm not happy with the one i have i'll try this one. Scene: Manhattan east side. I went in, the place was dirty, dusty and equipments from probably the 70 's ..........ok i thought, (i know i should have turned out the door right away) so i stayed, he started checking out my teeth, he said evertyhing looks fine he did some cleaning took like not more then 10 minutes, a few on the bottom that had some tartar and that's it. he FINISHED. i was like: is taht it? He said, well your teeth are in better shape than the avarage. he blew some salty water (he said it was baking soda to make them whiter) on my teeth and my whole face was covered in water. and than when he started the cleaning on a couple of my teeth he poked my upper lips, still hurts...........i was thinking, what the hell is he doing he was kind of shaking . I reached a point where i almost broke down in tears , and HE STILL CHARGED ME FOR A WHOLE CLEANING FOR 80 BUCKS.
NOW, MY QUESTION WOULD BE: IS IT FAIR, CAN HE REALLY CHARGE ME FOR THE WHOLE CLEANING , DESPITE HE BARELY DID ANYTHING??????????? please give me some advice on this or should i call him back and ask my money back or half of it at least. I'm so pathetic, i should have done it when i was there, but i don't know what is fair and what is not.
i'm really disappointed. thanks in advance.

Well, I can certainly see why you would be disappointed!! I would be pretty furious myself. I dont think you'll have much luck getting your money back (or even part of it). Most professionals (if you can call some of them that) get what they charge even if they don't do what you would concider quailty work. I would definitely not go back to that dentist though - sounds pretty bad! In my area (southern CA) ALL dental offices are very clean, like hospital sterile or better! And baking soda to rinse your teeth isnt gonna do much whitening...

HE STILL CHARGED ME FOR A WHOLE CLEANING FOR 80 BUCKS.

That's the normal charge for a whole cleaning.........in Manhattan? Sheesh! Then I really got ripped off. The last dentist I saw charged $150, and that was in Arkansas!

No use "crying" about the past - it's over and done with. I know you feel so angry and frustrated, who wouldn't? You know now never to go back there again. Sometimes it's good to go with your gut feeling - you should have turned around and walked out the door right from the beginning. Is there some dental organization that you can complain to? (unclean office, etc)

I'd be curious to learn if your acquaintance had a similar experience. Dirty and dusty office? Old equipment (though how you know that...). If you feel you were ripped off, why not report the guy? Not so much for charging you 80 bucks, but for being shakey and poking you in the mouth. You might find out if he is currently licensed, etc.

As to the fact that you were charged 80 bucks for a cleaning when you didn'thave much to clean, that's fair, I'd say. The charge is:

$80 for cleaning

That's it. that's the charge. There was no expectation stated or assumed that you'd be charged less because you take good care of your teeth. Frankly, I'm happy when my hygenist spends less time scaling my teeth because I've flossed and brushed so well between appointments. I'm happy! Why have that equipment in your mouth for longer than necessary?

hello,
tahnks for replying, well i was so angry i called the guy right that day , i called him and left him a message, ......he -surprisingly- called me back the following day. I told him that i was really disappointed what he had done and he really should have charged me for the visitation and not for a whole cleaning. ANd he was actually more than helpful, i heard some fear in his voice like he is afraid im going to badmouth him or something so he said :he wants hsis patient to be happy. ..long story sort, i get back 30 bucks . So i look at it this way: i paid 50 for a regular checkup, at least i know my teeth are in good condition, .....after all hi is a dentist so he might said some truthful stuff as well. So that's the story, next time i will rfeally listen to my guts. for sure. thanks again.
oh the person who reffered me to him, he is an older guy, so i dont think he paid much attantion to deatails like i did. The equipment you could tell tehy were reallllyyyyyy old, you can just tell. thanks guys. best.

Consider it a "llive and learn" thing. Move on and forget about it.
