I've been taking .025mg of Xanax as needed since November. On average about 8 pills a month. All of the sudden I've started itching all over (it starts in one place then moves to another, no hives).

Anyone experience this with Xanax? Someone told me that it could be hormonal and and Xanax just brings it out. I'm worried about having an allergic reaction since I am allergic to alot of fruits already have anxiety about this.

Hi,
I get alot of itching too, sometimes small hives. I have taken Xanax off and on for years, I don't think my itching has anything to do with the Xanax. I think it's just more peri problems. I do know that you can become allergic to anything at anytime, peri probably makes it worse. Does your itching occur after you've taken a Xanax? Try Benadryl for a couple of days and see if it helps any. Ann

I am so sick and tired of all this peri stuff that i want to S-C-R-E-A-M. Just when I'm dealing with a new symptom, a new one creeps in.

The last two times that I took Xanax I had this crazy itching all over. It started on my buttocks, then traveled to different parts of my body. It kicked in after about 1 hour of taking the Xanax and after I took 1 tsp of childrens benedryl did it calm down. And make me really sleepy! No hives though.

Actually I've had this itchy feeling (minor, nothing like with the Xanax though) ever since then. Maybe it simply is peri and the Xanax makes it worse? I can't believe that I may be allergic to something that helps me so much. It makes me so mad...my body is so in control and I'm not!

Maybe some Benedryl at night before bedtime for two-three nights may help. I'm going to give Xanax one more try (when I need it next) and hope that I don't get any itchyness...if I do....I probably am allergic to it.

I called my pharmasist and he said it was fine since I take Xanax as needed and not every day and my dosage is so small. I also got positive responses from others who have done the same when posting this question.

Obviously one must be very careful when combining the two of course. And I only take 1tsp of children's benedryl liquid, which isn't much.

Thanks for your concern.

Okay I had a great week. Then tonight I felt chest discomfort and my face went flush & hot and my heart started beating fast (is this a considered a hot flash??). I went into panic mode and was having high anxiety for no reason at all.

Since my husband was home, I decided to try 1/2 a Xanax. I figured if am allergic to Xanax that it was a good time to give it another try especially since he is home. Well, I started feeling itchy all over again, although not as bad as the last two times - could it have been my nerves? I am not sure of anything anymore.

Or could this itchiness be a symptom of peri that comes on with drugs?

Or am I simply becoming allergic to this drugs after multiple uses?

I hate this part og my life....I have no control over my body and when I try to control it, it turns on me with a possible allergic. It's enough to make me mad!

All I know is that is anxiety stinks and now I don't have anything to help anymore because Xanax is out of my life; I can't live with the fear of dying of an alleric reaction ontop of everything else.

Just needed to vent...thanks!

Hi , yea it does sound like you are having an allergic reaction to the xanax :( ...You could ask your dr for perhaps Ativan , Klonapin"sp?", Valium..For these work well with Anxiety too...Hope you get to feeling better soon!!

I asked my pharmacist and she says that all BENZO's are made the same basically and have the same chemical composition. There's nothing else that works on a short term basis and I won't go on Zoloft, paxil etc....

So what to do? I had the itchies last night and I didn't have any Xanax in me. Maybe it's all part of peri and I'm not really allergic to Xanax. I just don't know anymore. All I know is that when the next anxiety attack happens I am screwed.

Ok I hate to disagree with your pharmacist here , but im going to...
Reason why is this; When I was 24 and all this anxiety junk started stirring up on me..I was given ativan to take...Well low and behold I started itching and breaking out in hives..I stuck with it and the itching stayed as well as the hives..I finally went back to the dr and was given zyrtec to clear the reaction and swapped to xanax never had a problem since..Id speak with your dr about this... take care
