Well I been on Nardil for over 8 months now. I would say the benefits have been very good. Lately though I have been wanting to get off the drug and see how I do. I am thinking I can always go back on it if I need too.
Anyway probably the worst effect of Nardil was the 20 pound weight gain. Being thin all my life I now want to get back down close to my original weight. Has anyone lost the weight easily after stopping Nardil? I read in one of my drug books and usually the weight is lost after stopping Nardil.
Can anyone else give me some suggestions/advice on stopping with Nardil.
I plan to taper off for 2 weeks...
Thx
Nick

Dear Nik,
Before you took nardil did you try other antidepressants. My husband has been depressed for 4 years and has tryed many antidepressants and none of them work. I am ready to pull out my hair.

hi !
Nope didnt try any other AD'S before Nardil, I went right in to it for my moderate social anxiety w/ related depression and panic attacks
I tried coming off Nardil for a week and ended up going back on it... Anxiety & depression returned pretty fast after stopping and forgot how miserable I was before the med... I managed to lose about 13 pounds in that small time frame... Now that I am at a good weight I am dieting and exercising like hell to try and keep it..... The cravings can be really tough for sweet foods.....
Nardil is starting to kick back in, mood is better... anxiety is still there but thats probably because I am only at 60mg instead of 90mg.
If I can keep the weight off Nardil is the best drug for me... Even with the anorgasmia issue!
Is your husband not wanting to try an MAOi? Side effects are tough but definately beat the alternative for me.
Nardil has allowed me to have a good mood and little anxiety when out in public... I do not think I was depressed 1 day while taking it... Although major depression wasn't my worst problem...
good luck

Dear Nik:
Thanks for your reply, did you try any antidepressants before you started nardil? My husband has tryed just about all of them. The doctor said he wants to try high doses of remeron and see if that works. I am sick and very stressed. Please reply.

Nope never tried any other A/D, I recommend Nardil if you can take some side effects... (even sexual) and stick to the diet, the drug is a miracle

Dear Nik,
I’ve been on Nardil (90mg) myself for two years, until about six months ago. On Nardil I gained around 30 pounds and in the six month time, have lost only ten. I don’t mean to get you down, but it could take a while. Since you’ve only been on it for eight months, you weight loss may be more rapid.
If you can get off anti-depressants all together, do it. If not, may I recommend transdermal selegeline? I’ve been on it for a little more than a month, but it’s been extremely effective with minimal side effects. In addition the dietary restrictions may be non-existent, depending on the dosage. You would get transdermal selegeline from a compounding pharmacy. They can be tricky to find. As far as I understand it, it’s the same medication used in the Emsam patch, but at a fraction of the cost. I only pay about $40 without insurance.
