View Full Version : Update on me (after surgery)

Well I went in for my surgery on Monday (6th) and had all my remaining teeth removed. I was meant to be having implants put in during that surgery but unfortunately they found that there just wasn't enough bone and time didn't allow for them to do what would have needed to be done so bone grafting will take place next time around.

I came home on Monday evening and felt quite good really. Yesterday I was pretty swollen and today I just look ridiculous! I remind myself of one of those people from Whoville in The Grinch

I'm managing to eat a reasonable amount of soft foods so thats not too bad.

I definately don't feel as 'well' today as I did yesterday but I suspect that this is quite normal and not something to worry about (says she, hopefully...).

They couldn't fit my immediate dentures during surgery and I've not tried them since I've come home (toooo sore to even contemplate it) but I'll try them within the next few days and just in case they are really hopeless, I've made an appointment to see my dentist next Tuesday. I also have an appontment next Weds to see the surgeon who did my op, just for a normal follow up appointment and I supose that they'll explain whats going to happen next and give an idea of timescales etc.

Must go now because my head feels like it might explode

Hi Bevd....I know you are glad that Monday is behind you...so good to hear that you did well with it...I know you were disappointed that things didn't go as planned...Why weren't they able to put in your immediates? I don't understand that...I had immediates put in as soon as all of my teeth were extracted...and I was told not to remove them at all for 24 hours, and after that I could remove them to rinse them and to swish (very carefully because you don't want to affect your stitches) warm salt water at least twice daily...I was told not to leave them out any longer than that because the swelling would increase, and I wouldn't be able to get them back in, and I didn't want that to happen...It hurt sooooo bad to take them in and out, but I had to bear through it...at times, my husband was literally having to almost hold me up to get me through it. But I survived!! Did they tell you to lay ice packs on the sides of your face to help keep the swelling down? If you don't have ice packs - bags of frozen peas work just as well...The ice really helped me. And I'm sure they sent you home with pain meds...my oral surgeon also told me to take Ibuprofen, too...They seem to help alot more than Tylenol...The warm salty water will help you alot...it was actually very soothing...
You are in my thoughts...
Jackie
