If no one recomends one to you, just do a Google search for pain doctors+Washington and you'll get several in the Seattle area. I've done the search myself, but live on the other side of the state. That way you can contact one in the area you're going to be living.

I go to the pain clinic at Swedish. They are affiliated with the UW so they do alot of research. I see Gordon Irving who is the head of the department. He is very nice, understanding and seems to be on top of things. I have also seen Dr. Taylor at the same clinic. He specializes in accupressure and Eastern type procedures. I've had some kind of electrical stimulation, magnets, accupressure and even warm rocks in his office.
Unfortunately, after 3 years I still don't have a diagnosis and Dr. Irving still has not encountered anyone else with my problem.(pain in my lung after pneumonia) He vowed to bring my case up at every conference he went to but so far...no luck.
I only go there once a year but they seem to be on top of their game. They do injections and blocks(had both) and have no problem with prescribing opiates.
Check out their website: http://www.swedish.org/1919.cfm
and good luck with your search. I hope you find someone who works for you.

Hey Mush: Are the docs prescribing your opiate pain meds? I live on the other side of the mountains from Seattle, but you never know when I may have to make that 250 mile trip to see a pain doctor. I just wondered how often they require you to come in for an appointment. Thanks.

Hi Amster, My mom is from Gig Harbor, in the puget sound area, and her sister (my auntie) was going to a pain management center at Virginia Mason in Seattle. My aunt has since passed on, but she had a lot of good things to say about the doctors at Virgina Mason. Thats also a teaching hospital, so the care there should be up to date. best of luck and let us know how it turns out for you! Hugs, Fabby

Hi Amster,I would recommend Swedish medical Center and Dr. Irving. I have seen him for several years. They like a referral from your general practitioner. They like to have your general practitioner write your prescriptions. They will workout a treatment program with you and your family doctor. They will see you on a as needed basis after that.Dr. Irving prefers a patch which you're on. I feel very fortunate to have a physician like Dr. Irving with his credentials. I was treated like Bill Gates would be. I hope this helps you. If you're moving to the side of the mountains I would recommend the polyclinic for a general practitioner. I have been with them for over 20 years. I hope this helps you. I feel very fortunate to live in Seattle and have access to these physicians. good luck.please keep me posted.Mike :)

Director,
Yes they prescribe opiates. I'm on Oxycontin and Percocet. Dr. Irving wants me to switch to the patch or methadone if my tolerance goes up again. Thanks for the info Mike...now I know where I'll probably end up...tha patch.
Amster,
Good luck with your move and congats on the new baby! Take care ~Mush
