Hi All.

I just recently got a new tattoo about 3 weeks ago now, i believe. I'm supposed to get surgery on my leg, getting vericose veins removed. When Could I get the surgery done with this new tattoo? Do i have to wait a long time?

Thanks.

I have never ever heard about any sort of a contradiction regarding having a tatoo and surgery??Is this something you were told by your doc or your surgeon?Just what would the problem be with this,i guess I don't understand?i have had many many surgeries and was never asked about if I had just recently gotten a tatoo.FB

Yeah... I don't think there should be any problem. Especially after three weeks, the tattoo should be pretty much healed. You have to wait after getting a tattoo to donate blood, but that's because of the risk of contracting an infection (HIV, hepatitis) from the tattoo and then spreading it via blood donation. But there shouldn't be any risk with having surgery, as long as the tattoo is healed. I guess if the tattoo wasn't healed, there might be some sort of risk of infection or problems healing because of the stress of surgery. You can always inform your doctor and make sure it's not a problem.

Thanks for the replies.

My tattoo is on my left hand side(lower back/top area of butt). I always thought since you couldnt give blood with a new tattoo, it was the same for any type of surgery, i guess im wrong.
