Hi,

I had a Hemorroidectomy last Friday (3/3) at 7:00am. I did not have my first BM until Sunday (3/5) evening. They started off extremely small and have since increased in size to a more substantial level. They typical take an hour or so and require 3-4 trips to the toilet during this time. I have to do this 4-6 times a day. I am taking Colase, Toradol, and an occasional vicodin. I am eating a very high fiber diet, and am drinking at least 64oz. of water each day. In the past day I have started to take valium to help the sphincter muscle relax. FYI-I am writing this Wednesday at 2:30 CST.

My questions are:

1. When I get the urge, I usually have about 15 seconds to my it to the toilet and these urge come 20 times a day or so (3-4 trip X 4-6 times a day). I can usually make it to the toilet, but it is all in the timing (I don't have much say about holding it or not). Is this normal? Is this a sign of incontinence?

2. It still feels like I a passing razor blades with each movement. How long does this feeling last?

3. Is there arething I should be concerned about at this point?

Thanks for any help. I really appreciate it.

I think that if you'd take a bit more vicodin to get the pain under control things would improve faster. An occasional pill after such a painful surgery is likely not enough. Once you become more comfortable, I think your body will relax and start to work better.

The reason I had laid off them so much was due to the constipating effects. I was hoping the Valium would help accomplish the same goal.

If you're going 20X a day, you aren't constipated, IMO. :)

investment,
i had a fistulalectomy and a hemeroidectomy on 2/16/06 and i am still in agony! as much as i was a month ago....although i am not taking all that stuff you are! all i do is the colase and pain killers. what is that other stuff you take for? i know that when i look down there with a magnified mirror and flashlight it is still bloody raw open flesh inside, and my dr told me a few days ago i have at least another onth to heal!!! i know.....NOT WHAT HE SAID IN THE BEGINNING!!! he told me in the beginning it would be healed in 3-4 weeks. NO WAY! i am the mom of a 11 month old and a 2 year old, so i am unable to do the baths or sitz....but hopefully you can, my dr said that will help. besides that, maybe you are taking too many stool softners? although i am on the other end....and i think softer would be better then what i go thru. Every time i go i still have to hold my breath, i get chills, get hot a sweaty have to brace myself of the sink just to try to lift a little of the toilet and sometimes i have to let out a little scream! Mind you I had 2 babies NATURALLY WITHOUT A SOUND!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i hope we both heal very soon! i know how bad it hurts..............

Just when I think things are so bad I see your post and am glad that I don't have little ones at home to deal with during this! My heart goes out to you!
I'm 3 months post surgery and still get the sweats and chills during BM's.
Someone on this thread described it like razor blades... I'd agree! I've had 2 kids and I swear this is so much more pain then childbirth ever was!
hang in there!
