Im going for my impressions today and I'm a little nervous. Does it make you gag when your doing this??? What about your top denture? How bad does it make you gag?? When Im brushing my tongue I tend to get the gag reflex really quick!!!

Good morning Hope4All.....I'm not going to lie to you...it's gonna make you gag!!!! Do you have a morning appt.? If you are bad to gag - you might consider not having too much in your stomach....it's not unbearable but it's a natural reflex that's going to happen and you can't control it...But you can do it!!! Just have a positive outlook about it...In a few months I will be facing it again!! The good thing is that it doesn't take long for them to do the impressions...and you want that good impression so the finished plate will fit as tight as possible...I'll be thinking about you....let me know how it goes, okay?
Lots of hugs,

Hi Jackie!!
Well I'm done with my impressions, I stayed calm, focused on the dentist and breathed slow and deeply!!! I was able to control myself and didn't gag or freak out, took much control but I did it!!! :)
Will I have to get this done again???? This was for my 6month dentures after I'm healed I will get my permanent ones.
I wonder when I get them out if I can drive myself home? Im just have local anthestetic.
Thank you for all your support!!!

Hello Hope4All  Congrats on having that behind you!! That's the key slow deep breaths...Are you getting another set of dentures when you heal? If so, you will probably have to have the impressions made again...because your gums will change quite a bit...you will definitely have some shrinkage and the size of these impressions probably won't be the right fit for the permanents. It's been 2 months for me...and my immediates are sooo loose that I was having to use an adhesive to hold them in...the bottoms are always loose, but the tops did fit tightly until about 1-2 weeks ago...I went in yesterday afternoon and my dentist put in a soft reline that has made them fit nice and tight again without adhesive...I go back in 6 weeks and he'll decide how much longer before we start the process for the perms...I told him yesterday that I was making it okay with these and I wanted to make sure the time was right before we took the next step...I want them to fit as good as possible...
I'm new at this...and I'm definitely learning as I go, but if I can help you in any way...please know that I'm here for you...

Thanks Jackie,
I will be getting permanent teeth at 6months, this will just be my immediates. OMG, I really don't want to have to do that again...lol
I'm not sure how my bottoms will fit, they are leaving 4 teeth in the bottom (first thought only 2), so I don't know if a partial will be more secure than a full denture on the bottom. I will let you know!! I now have to make my appt to get my teeth pulled. I'm a little nervous but I'm sure I will be fine, anxiety is always worse than the actual procedure.
How long did it take for you to be out and about with your teeth??? My husband is going away in a few days and I'm not sure if I should go in before he leaves or wait until he gets back.

:d Hey Hope4all....
How Long Is Your Husband Going To Be Away? I Had All Of My Teeth Pulled On A Wednesday, And I Was About To Go Cabin Crazy And My Husband Took Me Out Shopping (really Just Looking) On Saturday...i Wasn't Comfortable With Speaking, But Other Than That Everything Else Was Fine...i Only Took Pain Pills The First Couple Of Days, And After That Ibuprofen Was All That I Needed...the First Day All I Did Was Sleep - I Don't Remember Much About It At All...the Second Day I Had A Follow Up With My Oral Surgeon And The Third Day I Saw My Dentist...and I Managed All Of That With No Problem...my Husband Took A Week Of Vacation To Be Home To Take Care Of Me...he's On 24 Hour Call...we Knew There Wouldn't Be A Problem For Him To Be Off The Day Of My Surgery, And The Day After, But To Be Sure He Decided To Take The Time Off. With Pain Meds We Knew Without A Doubt That I Would Not Be Able To Drive Myself To My Checkups....
It's Wonderful That You Will Be Able To Retain Some Of Your Bottom Teeth...that Will Be Soooo Much Better...at Least There Will Be Something For Stability, Otherwise They Would Just Be "free Floaters", And That Is Definitely The Greatest Obstacle To Get Used To...

How long until you were able to eat "normal" food?? What did you eat in the beginning?
You are being so great helping me with all my questions!! :)

Hope4All, I'm glad that I'm able to help...I'm learning as I go, because until I started down this road - I sure didn't know any of this!!! If I can share anything that I learn I'm very glad. I still don't know if I've gotten back to the "normal" food or not. It's an odd feeling when you try and chew, atleast, it was for me. Like I told you earlier, it's been 2 months for me. I still have a little tenderness in spots, and I can tell when I've tried to eat certain foods that the next day I experience a little more discomfort. Since I have finally gotten the ulcerated areas to heal it's easier to try and eat more normal...At first, I was strictly doing liquids...both my dentist and oral surgeon told my husband to go and get me a Frosty from Wendy's...that it would give me nourishment that I would need while I wasn't able to eat (or drink) much of anything. I ate pudding, applesauce, yogurt, soups (tomato, potato, cream of chicken, etc), ice cream, mashed potatoes...and then I worked my way up to oatmeal, mac & cheese, eggs, and anything else that I thought would be soft enough not to require too much chewing. Basically, anything that you can blend, or soften - go for it...do trial and error...that's the only way you're going to know if you can eat it or not...Even now there's things that I still don't feel confident enough to try, but I'll get there...I haven't tried to chew up any kind of meats - like steak or roast, or anything like that...I just feel like that would be too hard for me to be able to chew. When you do start experimenting with different foods, just remember to cut everything into very small bites, and take it slowly...it definitely takes a little longer to eat...but you will do just fine with it...It was hard not being able to eat, and at times it was depressing...but don't get discouraged, because it WILL GET BETTER!

I just called to make my appt for my teeth extractions and I was told I'm not ready for that step yet!! They told me I have to do a "bite block"!! she said there are many steps before the final one. What else do they have to do??? I wonder why my dentist yesterday didn't inform me of this bite block.

Is the impressions all they did at your visit (with that goop!)? When I went in for them to make my impressions the first thing they did was take a piece of what looked alot like play dough and rolled it into a snake-like shape, placed it in my mouth and had me bite down on it...I had to keep it in my mouth until it hardened...that was to get the correct bite, I guess. After doing that, they did the impressions...but it was all done in one visit...

Boy you were lucky!!! No when I went in they filled my mouth with that GOOP, to take my impressions. Then he asked me if I had decided on what type of dentures I wanted. Then I was to make another appt when I was there BUT their computers were down and I was unable to. I was under the impression next visit would be my extractions and immediates. This makes me wonder how many other things they will do to me before they actually get to the extraction part!!! She called what they are going to do a "Bite Block" she said something like biting down on some wax for my bite. I then asked will that be it, she said that will depend on if the lab needs further information.
Now Ive read that they do wax try ins....but being that I will still have teeth Im not sure how well that will work!
blueheartlady
03-10-2006, 04:57 PM
When getting immediates there isn't a wax try in....you can't do a wax try in while still having your teeth..I never even saw my immediates until the day before my surgery...I saw the color sample my dentist recommended, but that was it. I didn't have any say in anything else...I just trusted him to make the choice that he felt was appropiate for me. He told me from the beginning that the immediates don't always fit just the way you would like but when it came time to do the permanents it would be different...but, I think even my dentist was especially pleased with the outcome of the immediates..he said mine have been one of the best fits he's seen...they've had to adjust the bite a little, but other than that just the normal adjustments - where they've had to shave a little off the length of the sides of the dentures, and last week, because my gum tissue has decreased in size my top plate was gagging me, they removed a little off the top so it wasn't going so far back on the top of my mouth...
My extractions were done by an oral surgeon that my dentist recommended, so we had to get my immediates the day before my surgery. With you, if the same person is doing everything - they'll just have them there waiting for you. As soon as all of the extractions are finished they will put your plates in. You'll go in with teeth, and you'll come out with teeth...I'm very thankful that everything was done in as few visits as they did for me...I was terrified, so that helped.

No I was reading different sites after hearing about the bite block with denture procedures, and one place does do wax try ins for immediates, and they say they can never get them exact if you have your front teeth still in. So I guess every place you go to is different.
The place Im getting mine, it has a dental lab on site and they make the dentures there, so there is a oral surgeon on staff in the building and a dentist who works only on dentures.....its called Allcare dental.
My husband thought it was a waste of time that they didn't do both. I'm hoping that they do not draw this out into many many visits.

Hope4All it would have definitely made it more convenient for you to have done the bite block at the same time they did the impressions...It's good that everything you will need and all the procedures you will have done are all in the same place...that is definitely a plus...Alot probably has to do with the area of the country that you live in...I live in South Mississippi and we don't have all the choices that are available in larger areas...Any problem that you might encounter will be quickly solved by having everyone in the same location. Once the ball gets rolling - things will go smootly and before you know it - it will all be over...

Ok, so I had the impressions, Monday I will have the Bite block.....what is the next step?
blueheartlady
03-11-2006, 03:09 PM
My guess would be that they will make your immediates, and if they are going to do a wax try in you will do that...everything will have to be completed before you have the extractions...that's the whole purpose of getting the immediates, so they can be inserted immediately after the extractions....I'm really surprised that they didn't inform you of all the steps during your first decision making consult with your dentist. My dentist told me from day one what to expect and when....so far, he's been right on it, even telling me weeks and weeks ago (right after my procedure) not to freak when they got too loose to stay in my mouth, that it was normal...and he was so right...
So, maybe, on Monday you might want to ask them what else and when - just so you will know and that you can be prepared....

I totally agree they should have went over it. Remember the only person that has gone thru this recently was my husband, and his teeth were taken out because they were so bad, and he went without teeth for a full year. His mom knew a lady who made teeth for dentist and she took on impression and he got his teeth.
I think there are to many cooks at my place and I guess they expect someone else to tell me. But someone there should have informed me! The girl I had the appt with to go over the different choices of dentures should have told me.
They will lil ol me in there face tomorrow morning questioning them to death. Thankfully I had you to ask questions to, that is their responsibility to let me know exactly what they will be doing. I'm paying them not you......lol

Yeah, they might have too many fingers in the pot there!!! That's a prime example of not knowing what the other is doing...You're exactly right - get in their face and ask, ask, and ask until you're clear on every step, because you are paying them and for that reason they should make that their top priority!! Too make sure you are comfortable, and that everybody is on the same page...I guess my being from a small town, is good in that way...I even get cards in the mail from the dental assistants...It's just a small gesture, but it means alot. I'll be thinking about you in the morning, and I have "No Doubt" that you'll know more about it when you leave there!! Let me know how it goes.... Oh, and just a hug and some smilies will cover my cost!!!

Hi Jackie
Well I'm back from my Dentist appt. They put some pink things in my mouth, upper and lower and then told me to bite down. That was the entire appt!!
My next appt will be for the wax try in. He said if it fits right, looks right and feels good then my next appt will be the extractions, fillings on a few teeth that are being left. So one more appt until the finale!!! I'm crossing my fingers that my next appt everything will be exact and I can get to going home with my dentures :)
Oh and for your payment xooxoxxo

Hi Hope4All. ...glad your appt. went well...short and sweet!!! When do you go in for the wax try-in? It's good that you're getting to do that...that way no surprises when you see yourself after the extractions. I know you'll be glad when it's over. It's interesting how areas of the country have different ways of doing things to obtain the same outcome, isn't it? That is one thing that I enjoy about this board - we are all learning and sharing from our own personal experiences....You're going to do just fine with everything, I know you will...It's not an overnight thing...you know that from going through it with your husband...(it's just a totally different ballgame when it you sitting in that chair!!) - but the finale isn't toooo far away, now.

If all goes well with that appt, I will make my extraction appt for the weekend of the 25th, he will be off for a few days. I'm eating everything in sight right now, storing up like a bear :) I will make sure I have a steak or roast that week before they take my teeth. I will be prepared!!

Hello, I was delighted to find the Health Boards this weekend. So much good information.
Going from natural teeth to dentures is definitely not easy. Last summer I turned 66 just a few days before the extraction of all but 6 lower front teeth. Due to modern anesthesias the actual extraction process was easy. Even south Georgia is way beyond Jack Daniels and a bullet.
I had to go on early retirement due to a visual (going blind) incurable problem and fortunately or unfortunately because of a very low Social Security check (poor planning) I am also on Medicaid. Making the denture decision was relatively easy. I got tired of looking for and brushing my tooth. Finding a dentist that accepts Medicaid was both problematic and very interesting. The first dental office I visited was cause for such concern that I asked questions regarding which dental school he had attended. The nursing staff did not know, indicating they could ask his wife, an attorney. They did know the name of the medical school he had attended as well as the schools of advance study he had attended that qualified him to do cosmetic surgery in this state. He also had a pilots license so he could fly to the two or three other states in which he was certified and would I like to see examples of his work. I simultaneously decided; he was professionally spread a bit thin and that his marrying an attorney was probably a good idea and that I needed to find a plain dentist.
Medicaid pays for tooth extraction but not dentures. Apparently the Medicaid powers to be do not have the opportunity to see folks without dentures. If they did for sure they would pay as we all know that is not a pretty sight.
**** with kindly contradictions to a couple of postings from the newly toothless, I submit: With a mirror handy do the following: Maintain a straight face, holding mouth in place as if all the natural pearly whites were still there. Check the mirror. Oh yes, we are looking fairly normal. Now relax the jaw, let the gum lines touch: take great caution doing so, as your chin will meet your nose. Breathing becomes very difficult and suffocation may occur. Check the mirror again. Would you send a photo of that to a singles site?? Well, we are all different. You don't want to see me without dentures.
*** RE: Cost of dentures
I was able to find in my neck of the woods a person who made dentures part time. His regular job was driving a truck for Walmart. That was scary, but for $400.00 a set a bit of risk taking seemed appropriate. He suggested a nine month waiting period to allow gum shrinkage. That was fine if luck held out nine months would give me time to save the $400. I could have held out for the whole time. Looking and sounding like Moms Mabley did not really bother me as I have had the mirrors in my house draped for years. But, obviously it bothered my family, six months was all they could stand. When their jokes ran out they reached for the wallets and with their major contribution I got dentures. The first set was a bit out of adjustment. I had an overbite that made me look like Andy Gump. If any of you are under 50, search [removed]. The gloopy clay and wax had an encore. By this time I was experienced. Eating fish bait without gagging would be no problem. The second set was fine, the top plate fit quite snugly. I had a beautiful set of teeth, and could smile again, for about two weeks; then the top plate stretched. I am sure that was what happened as my gums could not possibly have shrunk so fast. The bottom plate has been impossible. I have learned to talk wearing just the top plate. Eating is another story. Bite down on the front teeth, the back flops down, on the back teeth the front flops and sometimes gets sideways. Just as soon as I can catch him on an off day from the Walmart truck, I am sure he can fix the problem. This is a true story. Not even the names have been changed since I did not call any. Could'nt have done that. I would have been bleeped or banned for life from these forums. I see the potential in a lucrative business; teaching "Eating, Talking and Sleeping in Dentures 101" or perhaps writing a book "Dentures for Dummies" I do hope all of you are old enough to recall Andy Gump and Moms Mabley as it would really be sad to know you are so young that you are missing all the other side effects of the Golden Years. Hi wandasm!
Sounds like you had a heck of a time. In the denture world I'm considered young, I'm 38! My husband had his out in his late 20's, both sides of parents had their teeth out in their teens. We come from bad teeth.
I cannot put my gums together, I have 8 teeth on top and 12 on the bottom.
I feel pretty confident in my team of doctors, this is really all they do. They just werent to upfront with all the steps! And they are pricey, the bite block itself is 150.00 and it was just a plain pink piece of somekind of paper.
As for eating, this indeed will be a problem. I haven't had any back teeth for awhile and I HAVE to eat with my front teeth. So I will really have to make an adjustment. I will go slow, and like blueheartlady said, take little bites, and stay with soft foods until I feel comftorable :)

Good morning, Hope4All  Is the appointment this Thursday for the try-in? Good idea to take your Mom with you. Let her go back with you and get her opinion of your new teeth...My husband was with me when my dentist was showing me the color of the ones he recommended...With you getting to have an actual try-in, you will be able to see exactly what they are going to look like. I'll get to do that when the time comes to do the permanents, and I'll have my husband in there with me. They've had me bite down on pieces of paper like that, too, to check my bite. They've done it everytime I've been in for a check-up and for an adjustment if I needed it. So far, I haven't had to pay for any of my visits or the soft lining they put in or anything.
Everything until after I get my permanents is included in the package, I guess!!
It's so enjoyable to have these chats with you! I'm a stay-home wife and mamaw...I'm keeping my newest grandbaby. He's 6 mos. old, and he's such a joy. He came into this world during all the chaos of hurricane Katrina. My husband is gone out of town more than he's home!! So, I really look forward to our "talks"...and I'm so glad to be able to help you or anyone else with any of the little tidbits of info that I've learned...It's strictly been 'trial and error' for me....SERIOUSLY, both the oral surgeon and my dentist told my husband to get me the frosty's from Wendy's!!!! And they were yummy, too!!! Not being able to eat anything (or much of anything) it tasted soooo good...so you be sure and have him get them for you :) ....Tell him I'm looking out for you, and I wouldn't tell you anything that would be bad for you!!!

Good morning Jackie !!!!
I'm also a stay at home mom and last year I started homeschooling my three kids, one is 15 the other two are 12 & 8. We had to many problems withing the school district that my husband lost complete faith and trust in our school system. They will be on break once my teeth come out...lol
As far as my wax try in, I'm a little confused. My dentist told me that my 6 month teeth (immediates) will not be the bright white that I want in my permanents and that they are all straight across. Then yesterday he said I will pick my shape and color of my teeth. Im not sure WHY if this is for my perms! My appt is for this Thursday as long as we don't get SNOW!!!
My sweet loving brother told me while my husband is gone he is going to take me out to dinner. He is older than me and still has his teeth, (im the baby in the family) and I think he is more nervouse about me getting all this work done than I am ... lol
Im also going to buy some Ensure or Carnation instant breakfast drinks to help with my nutrition for the first week.
I have to call the Office today because I know I'm getting top of the line teeth for my uppers but as for the bottoms I'm not sure.
Like you, all my charges are lumped into one, I paid half down and I will pay the rest off before I get my perms. I just find when they list everything and how much it is the prices are just outrageous.

Yes, I've always had the luxury of staying home with my 2 girls...less income that way, but well worth it!! I was the softball mom, basketball mom, and cheerleader mom...and I wouldn't have traded that for anything!!! My girls are all grown with families of their own now...My oldest daughter is 28 and is a teacher, and she has 3 children - a daughter that's 8, a son that's 4, and a daughter that's 2...she has her hands full!!! My youngest daughter is 24 and is a drafter doing production design and she has a 6 mo. old son...We are so blessed!!
I fully understand your delimma about the school systems!! That's everywhere....my daughter teaches high school and specializes in the math's. It's such a shame that the learning system has become what it is...everyone seems to forget the importance of it!!!! I commend you for taking the task of schooling your children!! You truly are a wonderful Mom...
They will probably enjoy their "spring break"!!!
I don't understand the deal with your immediates either???? Mine look just like normal teeth!! The few that know the truth say there's no way to tell that they're dentures!! (at least that's what they tell ME!!! :D ) So I don't understand why your immediates would look any different than the permanents....in fact my immediates will be my backups if for any reason I would have to ever be without my permanents.

Jackie,
Your daughter does have her handsful!!!! I really don't see how teachers do it, kids are out of control, and they have to teach for those dang state tests!!! I have even heard on the news last night they want to do away with recess so the teachers have more teaching time and lunch has been cut down to 20 min!!!! How insane is that??
My dentist told me that my immediates won't be like my permanent teeth. I won't get the shade in the immediates and I cant pick how my teeth will look. They will be just straight across!!! Now with my permanent teeth they will be white and If say I want longer eye teeth then I can, If I want my front two teeth shorter than my natural ones I can. Heck If I want a space between my two teeth I can (NOT that I would...lol) But someone who always had a space and doesnt want anyone to know they are false teeth would ask for a space!!!
This is why I'm not sure why they want to do my try ins now and go over my teeth selection!!! Its becoming very confusing...lol So basically my immediates will look NOTHING like my permanent ones.

 Hi Hope4All....You're right...those state tests are top priority!!!! And I think that is terrible...yesterday my daughter and I were discussing those tests, and to prove my point - let me tell you - everyone knows how hard the gulf coast was hit by Katrina (IT'S NOT ALL NEW ORLEANS!!!!!)....in fact the school where my daughter teaches has adopted one of the high schools in Bay St. Louis, Ms. They raised money to buy calculators so those students would have them to use when they have to take those STATE TESTS!!!! In consideration of the drastic effects caused by Katrina - they had enough compassion to move the test forward 1 WEEK!!! (Doesn't that show alot of heart!!) At this high school there are over 500 students, and out of those only 35 still have a home!! How do they expect those children to be able to take that test?!! It just breaks my heart!! It's bad on everyone that was in the path of that hurricane. The county we live in, other than the coast line of MS.. was deemed the other hardest hit area in the state. But compared to our Gulf Coast, we've only experienced a minor inconvenience!!!
I didn't get to pick how I wanted my immediates shaped, but I did get to discuss with my dentist, the proper shade for mine...I never saw them before my husband picked them up the afternoon before I had the surgery....so, I guess to explain it right - when I finally get to the time for the permanents - I will have to sets of dentures...both wearable at any time...Yeah, he told me, too, that we could make the permanents any way that I want them to look...

Jackie,
I feel so bad for everyone affected by Katrina!!! How hard that has to be for everyone. And now it seems now that the media isn't covering that they are all forgotten :(
Sadly they no longer teach for "the Real world". Most kids at fast food places have no idea how to count or make change. And don't let the computers break down or they are screwed!!!!
Well I cannot wait for them to pull these teeth, I'm just being numbed. I have a phobia concerning being put out!!! I'll let you know how it goes on Thursday. I'm getting my husband and daughter ready for their trip, me and my other 2 are staying home. I'm mainly staying home due to my teeth. Good morning, Hope4All....I'll be thinking about you today, hoping everything goes good with your dental appointment!!! I look forward to hearing all about it....
Sorry I didn't post yesterday...I had to carry my grandson in to the doc Tuesday afternoon for a check-up and his 6 mo. boosters...so, yesterday he was a little fussy, and running just a low grade temp...just enough to make him feel bad!!
How's the hubby withdrawl? When you're not accustomed to it- it's not easy to be away from each other...We've been married 33 years, and I still go through withdrawal when he's away, and he's away alot - usually more than he's home! My husband left about 4 am yesterday morning for a job out of town...He should be home sometime Fri. night, and then have to leave again Saturday or Sunday going back for a few more days...My daughter's husband works out of town during the week and home on weekends, so she and my grandson have just been staying with me this week.
Did you get snow? That's a rare sight here in the deep south...but it does happen once in a blue moon!!
Kelton is waking up from his "30 min. power nap" so I've got to check on him..

Hi Jackie!!!!
I'll let you know, its not until 2:00. I'm excited about this visit, I get to see my teeth! Even if they are wax. Now when its time to have my extractions I will be less than excited.
I'm sorry your grandbaby was having a hard time, I hated when my kids got like that, you feel so helpless.
Hubby withdrawl is HORRIBLE! I cried like a big sissy baby yesterday. Then I would calm down, and he'd call and I would start all over again. I'm trying to keep myself busy though, I'm Ok as long as I don't think about him. This is why I would never date a trucker or anyone that would have to be gone.
Luckily we won't be getting snow this afternoon, we are suppose to get some tonight though. I love snow, the more the better. Now that it is March though I'm ready for spring. We did have 2 days last week in the 70's which is totally not normal for this time of the year.
Hope your little one feels better today :)

I'm back!!!
Well the wax try in was just for the "bite" !!! We didn't discuss color or teeth.
As of right now I have an appt for March 23 for my surgery at 4:00pm, and my post op March 24 at 10:30am....That isn't even 24hrs!!!!!
They did freak me out though, I do have to have my upper wisdom tooth taken out, it will interfere with my denture. BUT the roots are long and very close to my nasal cavity. So they arent sure if the dentist there can pull it or if I'll have to go see a Oral Surgeon!!!! She will call me tomorrow to let me know if they can pull it there. Now I'm a nervous wreck, I'm terrified to have that tooth taken out!!!!
I also wasnt expecting to have this done til the weekend of the 25th when hubby will be off, but they only have this one day open, they are booked past the end of April, so its either now or wait a long time.
So thats where Im at right now.....scared to death :(

It's going to be okay!!! The 23rd is on a Thursday, so that won't be too bad, if your husband is off that weekend...will he able to be there that Thursday afternoon for the procedure? And if you're on pain meds someone will have to drive you for the post op on Friday morning...If they decide it will be best to use an oral surgeon, don't worry...an oral surgeon pulled all of mine!! You know you don't won't to miss this date and have to put it off any longer...
I WAS TERRIFIED when I had to have my surgery!!! so, I can understand your worry...but like you said - you are so ready to get it done...and your husband will be there to take care of you all weekend (and get you that FROSTY!)...so, you're not going to do the wax try-in? Are they just going to have them ready for the 23?

No, I didnt get the wax try in..which I thought was odd anyways...lol
It was just the wax try in to make sure they had my bite down before they made my immediates.
I talked to my husband and he will be taking me Thursday and Friday so I will be ok :)
Oh and I made a mistake the roots arent near my nasal cavity, its near my sinuses..lol
If I have to go to the Oral Surgeon, that maybe problematic. My husband wont get in until Monday/Tuesday, and my appt is Thursday. Unfortunately I wont have anyone to take me to the oral surgeon. So if I need the oral surgeon then my appt will be put off for a couple of months.

;) Well, then, we'll just hope that they can do it without you having to go to the oral surgeon!! Whatever will the best for you...I would hate for you to have to put it off for months!!! I know you're ready to get this all behind you and on the road to recovery and to see your beautiful new smile :) It's good that your husband will be able to be off to take you to both of your appointments....You definitely wouldn't be able to drive yourself! My husband took a week of vacation to make sure that he wouldn't have any problems...we really didn't have any choice, because I wouldn't have had anybody else that could have taken me...I wouldn't have wanted anyone else to see me after it was over anyway!!!! The way my husband works is hard. He's on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week....He doesn't even have any scheduled days off, ever...He works in the Oilfield Service business. Sometimes he has alot of time home, but when they get really busy, he's gone most of the time...Most people just can't understand this way of life, but when it's all you've ever done - it's everyday life to us...not saying that it's not hard, because it is!!! We really look forward to and cherish the times that we're together...we even still hold hands!! :D
Be sure and let me know what they call and tell you....I'm sending my prayers and positive thoughts your way!!!
Lots of hugs,
Jackie

Hi Jackie,
Well I have recieved no phone call from the dental office and its 6:30pm here, I called there at 4:00 and they told me she would call me back!
Even if she calls me back tonight now I wont be able to call any oral surgeons until Monday. Sadly, around here if your not already a patient and your NOT in pain you must wait weeks to get an appt. I will have only three days to get an appt and this won't happen :(
I'm HOPING, that the dentist is going to pull it and that is why they havent called me. The other thing is when I went for my impressions they KNEW this tooth was going to be a problem, why didnt they discuss this with the dentist way back then, and then maybe I would have a chance to be seen by an oral surgeon.
I will let you know if and when I hear from the office, if I don't hear from them this weekend I will be calling again.

Hope4All, I am sooo sorry that you're having such a difficult time getting everything arranged, so you can get all of this behind you and over with!!! I know the wait for me was so nerve racking!!! Maybe, no news will mean good news!! I sure hope so...It's like we were saying before, that it seems so many different people are involved that things are slipping by without being taken care like it should be...What time do they open on Monday? Get on the phone and have it ringing when they walk into the office!!!
I thought of something that I wanted to be sure and tell you about that I found very helpful with my healing process...In fact I'm still using both of them...Colgate makes an Antiseptic Oral Cleanser called PEROXYL...it promotes healing. You can find it where the mouthwash is. My dentist told me it was fine for me to use. Also, my dentist uses a Dental Gel by Oxyfresh. It contains aloe and tea oil (and other ingred.), and it is really really good...but the only way to purchase it was from my dentist. Both of these have been wonderful!! And he also had me using a wet cloth and rubbing my gums 2 min. every morning, and every night. It helps to get the blood flowing and helps with the healing...and you know to very carefully swish warm salt water in your mouth 2-3 (or more) times a day...anything I can think to tell you that will help you, I'll pass on to you.... :)

Good morning Jackie
Well I called early this morning, and the girl apologized. She said the dentist looked at the wisdom tooth and decided it did NOT need to be pulled at all. He said it would actually act like an anchor for my upper plate!!!! So all is a go for Thursday!!!
My one friend is going to get dentures too, but her is worse than any others Ive heard of, they are only going to pull one side of her mouth and let it heal then pull the other side. He also told her they were leaving her incisors in so that she will have suction on her top dentures. The one she is going to is shady and when you mention his name in a group of people at least one will have a horror story about him.
Hows everything going with you and your mouth??? Have you tried eating anything yet that isn't mush????? Thanks for the tips you gave me in your last post, I will refer to them during my healing period.

I'm so glad to hear your good news!! I'm sorry you were left to worry about it all weekend, but no news was good news, wasn't it!!!
It's sweet of you to ask about me....I'm doing okay...I have started being able to eat a few things...I've just been slowly trying different things....I can eat most any type of pasta dish (like spaghetti w/sauce; lasagna, etc.). I've eaten meatloaf. I can eat a hamburger, if I cut it up...I've been able to eat baked chicken, as long as it's not cooked too dry. I can eat deep-dish pizza (not the perreroni though), and I can eat tater tots, but not the french fries...Yesterday, my husband and I drove down to the coast for the day,(he's been home the entire weekend and it's been wonderful!!) and we ate a country-style buffet. They had a breaded tenderized steak, and I decided to give it a try...It was extremely tender, and I was able to eat that without any problem...that was my first attempt with anything like that. This is all definitely a new learning experience...Even 10 weeks into this, I still have good days and bad....I just don't let anyone know about the bad ones...I've never been one to complain or let anyone know about my pains or discomforts if I can keep from it...
Sorry to hear about the ordeal facing your friend!! That's going to be a difficult way for her. Is that her decision to do the extractions that way? If she is wanting to heal in stages, why not pull all of the back teeth, let that heal, then pull the others...is she getting immediates when she gets the final ones pulled? Or is she going to wait until she's completely healed? It's not easy, no matter which way you do it, but that just seems really odd...

Oh this friend of mine!!! She wont ask any questions, they just tell her what they are doing and she's going along with it. No she isn't getting immediates, she said they told her something about waiting 6 weeks. She is going by "well if they mess up at least I can go somewhere else for the other teeth"!!! That doesn't scream trust or confidence in her Doctor to me!!!!
Wow your eating all that now :) It must feel good to actually taste meat again!!!
You are a brave soul, I whine ALOT!!!! If I'm in pain everyone knows it lol
I do not know how I gave birth to three children with no pain medication, all three came out natural. I'm such a baby I wouldn't even do the epidural, I was told about the types of complications that could come from those and I said thats OK I'll deal with the pain and whine about it....lol
My hubby will be home tonight, I'm glad you got to have a good time with yours while he was back. He sounds like a good man :) Not many around like yours now days!!!

 Hi Hope4All
Yeah, it's quite a trip eating a meal these days!!! Things taste soooo good, now!! You don't realize how much you enjoyed eating certain foods until you can't eat them!!
My husband is definitely a rare breed!! He's my high-school sweetheart, and we've been together since the day we first met, when we were 17!! He's the type person that would do anything for anyone. After the hurricane, he was trying to keep us and three other families from loosing our freezers...He was carrying a generator from house to house and letting it run a few hours at each...it really took a toll on him, too...I am very blessed to have him, and I give my thanks for that each and every day....I'm hoping he'll get to be in town again this next weekend, too...we're into antuque and classic cars, and there's going to be a car show in our area this weekend to benefit the "MAKE A WISH" foundation that we're hoping to be able to go and enter one of our vehicles...that's usually how we spend our weekends when the weather is good..and we go to cruise-ins at the local Sonics or wherever...I tell everybody that we're just a couple of RECYCLED TEENAGERS!! enjoying life...

Yes, tomorrow is your big day!!! :) I'll be thinking of you all day, and I'll be right there holding your hand...Everything will be just fine, and I know you're going to do GREAT!! When it's all over, you'll have a beautiful new smile :D .
I'll be waiting to hear from you, when you feel up to it...just remember what I told you - take it one day at a time...
Atleast your husband has been through this...You're very lucky in that, because I didn't have anyone that had been there...my Mom had dentures, but she's been gone almost 17 years now....but anything that I can do to help, just let me know, okay...
Don't forget to put your order in for that Frosty from Wendy's, okay!!
Wishing you lots of luck, and sending you bunches of hugs,
Jackie

Well its over with!!! Its 4:00am, I fell asleep around 10:30 but now my face woke me up, so I will take a pain pill and go back to sleep. The pulling of my teeth was fine, it hurt like a @#*@(# when my numbness wore off though!!!
I said OMG I paid 4,000.00 to feel like this!!!! LOL
The frosty didnt go to well, I think it was just to thick and I could really feel it. But when I go in today, they either lined my teeth up in my mouth wrong, or when they told me to take them out and put them back in (the nurse had me do this before I left) I put it in kind of off. My front teeth are off to the left!!!!
I'll let you know how today goes depending on my pain level.
Thanks for all the prayers, I felt everyone that was praying for me :)

Hi,
I have had a top plate for over a year and a half. I have had serveral made. One cost 3 thousand dollars. I still can't wear it more than a very short time. I have a terrible gag relex. I have been on line looking for help all this time. Nothing works. I took a tool and shaved them off away from the back of my throat ( I never could get suction with any of the dentures I bought.so I wasn't losing anything. I have to use all the goop to keep them in anyway. This is the most horrible thing that I have ever delt with (if you knew my life you would be surprised that this has stopped me in my tracks I am very tough.) I can hardly leave the house, I can't speak clearly so I really speak (also not like me) I have not been able to work. Going to my sons wedding nearly killed me, I was so terrified I would gag and have to pull my teeth out in front of every one.
I find myself thinking of ending things. I know what you are thinking, that I am crazy. I am not. I just can't live my life like this. I wear glasses, I wear make up, I dye my hair. I do things that are fake all the time. Why can't I do this? I know I sound like I am rambeling, and I guess I am. But this thing has taken over my life. My poor husbands liver is failing and I am trying to care for hime, my son is disabled and a mess. I need to be one the top of my game. I take care of people for a living. But I am not able to do it properly. I can hardly speak to the doctors. Oh, I don't know. I have tried everything I can think of. I have been looking on line for a hypnosis CD that may help. But as of yet I haven't found one. There are thousands like me I have found out. We need help. I want inplants, but even mini implants are so costly. It would take all I have in savings to get them. It would leave us broke.
Anyone out there know what I can do, before this rips me apart?
