View Full Version : Oh, the confusion... Oh, THE HIVES!!!

I am so confused. I have mild hayfever like symptoms all year round, but the past few days have been different. My hayfever symptoms have evolved in to hives, mild diharrea, nausea (every now and then),a fever (every now and then), and at one point difficulty breathing. I went to the doc and he thinks it's a food allergy. I am confused because I didn't think that a fever was a typical sign of an allergy, which made me think that I might just have a virus of some kind, but then again what kind of virus involves hives and lasts for over 3 days? That aside, I thought it might be these new noodles I have been eating, but I haven't had those noodles in almost 2 days. Can I still get a reaction from that after so long? My reactions seem to be getting worse too. Today (after the doc visit) I broke out in more hives than I have before and I was having difficulty breathing. I hadn't eaten anything in the past couple of hours either. I just don't know what this is! I am not able to see an allergist for several months so I hope there is no more difficulty breathing! Other than the noodles, there is nothing new in my diet that I can think of...

Any ideas/help would be appreciated.

Hi Kylie, so sorry your feeling so awful. I'm wondering if you are taking antihistimes, you need something if you are having difficulty breathing. Isn't the doctor concerned? Do you carry and epipen? I think doctors don't know anything about hives. They immediately say it's a food allergy, I don't think that that's true in all cases. I've been getting them now going on six months straight, I take an antihistimine every day, this helps. My lips and eyelids swell also so I'm terrified of my throat closing. I think hives come from many different things, mine started after a series of black fly bites that swelled up huge, also at a very stressful time for me, and I'm peri menopausal, so I think that in my case it is not food at all. I'm sure sometimes people do have food allergies that cause hives, but not always. Go to the ER if you feel really bad, you shouldn't have to go on like this.
Good luck and I hope you feel better soon!
Mary

Well I only had difficulty breathing after I went to the doctor. I've been taking antihistimes, yes. I woke up with hives today and I've had them pretty much all day. I'm almost certain it's not a food allergy. I might have to go back to the doc :(
