Okay so I've been having this problem for the past I don't know how long. I'm 20 now. And I've always had a hard time gaining weight (5'10 123#). I'm sure it's a digestive problem... it just seems that everything I eat goes right through me and then out (and it rarely comes out right)... without me absorbing any calories or fats or maybe any nutrients. At first everyone told me I had a fast metabolism... then I thought maybe IBS... and then I thought hyper-thyroidism (because I have a lot of the symptoms)... and now I'm on celiac disease (gluten intolerant)... which sucks because over the years of not being able to gain weight I've become obsessed with food and I'll eat anything and everything... and I found out that I may have to stop eating anything that has gluten (wheat basically) and dairy products... and I'm obsessed with milk it's the best thing in the world... I'm drinking it right now. And almost everything has gluten in it. The thought of having to watch what I eat kills me!

Does anyone else know what I might have? If you know any other diseases or conditions that make it hard to gain weight please let me know. Thanks!

It certainly sound like your are intolerant to some foods.
You really need to find out what they are and eliminante them from your diet.

JB68711,

I agree with Harry. An elimination diet, especially with the help of a nutritionist or doctor specializing in nutritional medicine, will help you to find out which foods your body is rebelling against. Once you eliminate these foods from your diet, you will find that there really are a lot of OTHER foods out there that you CAN eat.

I feel your frustration, but I can assure you that life without gluten has opened up an adventurous world of new foods to me. And if I had to eliminate milk from my diet as well, I would pout and whine and feel sorry for myself for a while (which I did when I realized that I had to change my diet to gluten-free), but I would eventually realize that there are substitutions for that as well. Hang in there -- you're not alone!
