First off taking the first step is always the hardest! Congrats. Just remind yourself everyday that no one every got anywhere in life by submitting to their fears. Same applies to you, use that fear as a motivator to train hard, smart and consistant. Do these three things and failure is impossible.

Have some low cal snacks handy so when you're really hungry, you can eat something without derailing your diet. Things like celery, a few carrot sticks, sugar free Jello, sugar free popcicles. Things like that will help to satiate you while keeping you at a caloric deficit. Also make sure you're drinking enough water. Staying hydrated (~8oz per 1-2 hours) will help keep you from feeling hungry also.

I find that I'm hungry if I don't drink enough water when I'm on the treadmill. If that doesn't do it, a meal replacement, in liquid form, always does the job. The calorie contents are usually around 150.

Another thought is, if your workout routine has you regularly increasing difficulty, you may be burning the glycogen from your muscles. Maybe this is putting you into a shortage and your body is calling for some fuel to rectify the situation. Lower resistance will not burn as many calories. But, with your heart rate in the 130 range, your body will draw on the fat reserves as its fuel source. I'm thinking that might help the post workout hunger. Just a thought!

I've found that a handful or two of almonds and walnuts is an excellent appetite killer. I think they also have some Omega 3 benefits. That and a bag of raw vegies is enough to get me to the noon workout. And that is enough to support my 185 frame.

Watch out for the high glycemic carbs. They are notorious for making you hungry sooner than later. Dr. Strand authored on book on the subject. You can find it on Amazon for about $11. Very informative!

Recently, I decided to get back in shape myself. I started walking 2-5miles/day 7 days/wk and also doing crunches and stretches. In addition, I decided to cut my sweets intake by half and reduce my takeout food limit to just once a week. Mainly, my diet consists of chicken, turkey, eggs, oatmeal, Clif bars, nutritional shakes, various organic foods, whole grains, soup, vegetables and fruit. And I only drink water, but that was always the case. Before, I was totally lazy and ate a bunch of junk. So, this was a big change for me. I started the excercise plan right after Xmas and phased in the food plan last month. After I'd exert myself, I'd feel hungry, even if I ate not too far before I excercised. I'd also feel hungry all the time in general.

At any rate, before I bore you too much, it's hard at first. Feeling hungry is the pits. But you have to tough it out. I hated going to bed hungry, but I did it every night in order not to eat too close to bedtime. You get used to it. I don't feel hungry all the time much anymore. And the fitness program is working well. I haven't lost much weight yet, but I'm stronger and have more endurance and energy. It's been worth it.

Thank U, Miss Mokay and congrats on taking that first step. My problem isn't necessarily the fact that Im hungry. Its the fact that I get paranoid cuz Im scared that Im doing something wrong. Im scared of eating too much, too little, at the wrong times, the wrong portions, etc. In general I can say that I eat pretty healthy, no junk food, good carbs, low in saturated and trans fat, drink lots of water, etc. Since I starved myself 2 years ago and now I gained back all this fat, I just feel like its next to impossible to lose it. I remember when I first started starving myself, I lost weight for a while and than all of a sudden I started gaining it back when I wasnt even eating! I got so scared when that happened, that I would work out like a maniac and eat less than 500 cals/day but I would still gain weight! I went to the doctor thinking that I had a thyroid problem but then the doctor told me that my test results came out good and I was perfectly healthy. Everything went downhill since then, I kinda gave up, I started eating healthy again but I don't workout cuz everytime I try...I give up. Since this whole incident I was diagnosed with depression. I have panic attacks at LEAST once a month. I just don't know what to do anymore. Since I already eat healthy, the only thing I can do to lose weight, is workout. I just want my old body back. The one I had when I was healthy, thin and fit.
