View Full Version : SSRI withdrawal--unusual symptoms?

My pdoc switched me from Celexa to Lexapro about a month ago--thought I would be less tired on Lexapro. Things seemed okay, but I was feeling a bit queasy, and wasn't sure about the dosage--I didn't notice a big difference. I was oringally on 40 mg Celexa when I switched to 5 mg Lexapro plus 20 mg Celexa, then upped the Lexapro to 10 mg and dumped the Celexa (per my doc). Around that time, it seems I developed what looked like a viral infection, which I never get . . . so I wonder if I was having a reaction to the Lexapro. So I talked to my pdoc about it, and switched back to just 20 mg Celexa (so I was down by about 50% my regular dosage). The symptoms I had were: a low grade fever, felt queasy for a few days, muscle aches and soreness, and gained about 8 lbs. in water retention. Blood tests showed my WBC count went up as well (so I don't know if this was an inflammation from w/d or infection). But my feet are STILL swollen from edema. Has anyone else experienced edema from SSRI withdrawal? I'm feeling better otherwise . . . but this is making me nervous. I have maintained a weight of 133 lbs. ever since I recovered from cancer therapy last year (lymphoma), and this water gain has put me up to 141/142 lbs. My doctor is confused by this as well. Thanks for your input. By the way, I had a rxn several years ago when going off of Prozac, which included similar symptoms, and high CK levels.

It's doubtful that you had withdrawals going from Celexa to Lexapro, because the two are so similar.

Anything is possible, however...

I think that flu-like symptoms are possible when adjusting to a new med. I've never experienced my feet swelling up.

I hope that someone else can help you. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

Good luck and I hope that your symptoms go away... that is no fun!
