Hi,
I am 24, 5'8 , weight 140. Most of the time when I go to the bathroom I have continuoius wiping for up to 20 minutes before I am clean. Other times I go and after 1 wipe I am fine, but a few hours later If i was to check I would have some stuff to randomly clean. I have been healthy all my life, except for this problem for the last 6 months to a year. I went to the DR, he examined me and said it looked fine to try citrucel and if that didn't help i would have to go to someone and have something put in my stomach. The citrucuel helped for some time, now it doesn't appear to be anymore. I do not eat vegetables, salads, lettuce. My lunches are turkey breast, grilled chicken usually. Dinners pizza, grill chicken, chicken soup, steak. All sandwitches are usually just with cheese as i do not like tomatoes, or lettuce. I eat a few fruits a day, but why do I have this problem? Is it because I do not eat vegetables which I really hate. I have started to eat a big salad for the last 3 days, will this help? Anyone have any suggestions on why I have this problem?

Do you have hemmhoroids? That happens to me because the hemmhoroid won't allow me to clean myself right.

Dave,
To have normal BMs a person needs 25 to 35 grams of fiber either in their diet or take as some part of a fiber supplement.
It needs to be a combination of both soluble and
insoluble fiber.
Soluble fiber absorbs fluid so your stools are bulky & clean your colon. Insoluble fiber causes food to move by muscle contractions.
Poor eating habits can cause your problem!!
There is NO fiber in all meats, seafood and all dairy products.
Insoluble fiber is all fruits, all veggies including green leafy one, nuts & seeds and the brans in cereals from grains.
Soluble fiber is the inner part of all grains -- like rice, corn, oats, barley and wheat. Bean & peas are soluble-- except the out part is insoluble and also green beans are insoluble. Root veggies like potatoes, carrots, beets and turnips are soluble,
And of course the fiber supplements like Metamucil, Citrucel. Benefiber and Fiber Choice are soluble.
This is my no means a complete list but will give an idea about foods.
With your diet -- food is not being processed like it is supposed to --- When you are young, your body is very forgiving but as you get older your body need necessary nutrients to make it function right. It is now not being properly fed.
I think you really need to change your diet--- I believe that good optimum health begins with what you eat and drink.

dave,
Alot of foods include on their labels dietary fiber-- I think it means the company is not requied by law to list whether it is soluble or insoluble fiber. But no company does.
I eat yogurt (Stonyfield Farm) that the label says it contain 3 grams of fiber per 8oz serving -- the side indicates it is Inulin --- I found out that it is derived from chicory root--- a soluble fiber because I called the company to find out what it was.
I also did the same with Fiber Choice -- a big orange flavored tablet that you chew for 2 grams of fiber.
Take Care~~~ Harry

Listen: You need to eat your veggies - you're likely missing out on many of your essential vitamins & minearls, and of course fiber. And some really delicious foods! If it makes eating veggies more palatable, smother them in cheese or some sort of sauce or hide them in a saucy chicken/rice stir-fry (try onion, broccoli, peppers) or saucy chicken fettucini (broccoli, artichoke mushrooms). You can make a big batch of these with easy ingredients (box of noodles, jar of sauce, a few sliced veggies) an eat them over the couse of a few days. Salads will give you some fiber, but try to avoid just iceberg lettuce - go for a heartier lettuce and don't skip the tomato, cucumber, onion, etc. Soak it in dressing & add a little ham or chicken if you need it to be palatable.
Grains are packed with fiber, though refined flours (white bread, bleached pasta) can tend to be "sticky" and bind. Given your problem, I'd try for whole grain breads and pasta - basically tastes the same but is much better for you.
A fiber pill and a multivitamin might help - but you're 24, not 74. If diet can make you more healthy, why pend the money and worry with pills.
Can I ask a couple questions - are you gassier than usual? Has your weight changed much? Are your stools hard and dense ("ploppers" as we call them)? Do you drink more than a couple times a week?
Gas and hard stools can be a definite sign of an imbalanced diet. Extreme gas might also cause the problem you mention wher you are 'dirty' again shortly after a movement. Drinking too much can make your stools soft & sticky and hard to clean, plus can cause irritation to the colon, which could be the source of discharge as well.
If things don't get taken care of by adding fiber, you should see a doctor as you might have a more serious bowel problem. But if you go at this point, the Dr will most likely tell you to get some fiber and come back in a few weeks!

My weight is the same, some times my stool is hard and sometimes soft depends on the day. I am getting a few blood tests done on thursday, will this show if i do not have enough fiber as you all say? ??Also since ***** has a high fiber cereal which is insolubable fiber which you say is my problem, will that help if I eat a few bowls a day? I believe 2 bowls is enough insoluable for the day and I do eat a few fruits, salad a day and a citrucel shake or fiber choice cap for the soluable. I appreciate your time everyone, and look forward to your responses.

ive had the same problems, and also other different bowel problems.
its good to see this thread up and i will hopefully get round to having some fibre.
i easily use up a whole toilet roll, whereas "normal" people just use a few sheets.
having to wipe my *** when i havent even went to the toilet is another thing.
another problem is also bowel sweat, and sometimes there is abnormally strange smells, and its really frustrating because i get a bath every day :o
anyway i will take another look in the thread a.s.a.p, good look to whoever started the thread
