The phone number you call from to the 1-800 CDC Aids hotline is put on record, even if you have your id blocked. Another future call and they will ask you if you called before, for some reason you forget or someone else called from your phone and you tell them no, they disconnect you. This happened to me when I was going thru some anxiety about a questionable exposure, needless to say I was devistated. I will never call that hotline again for fear of rejection, sure I could tell them I called before if I remembered, but why should it matter, say someone else called from my phone without my knowledge, for example: a child, a wife, a friend, etc and they asked them if they called before and they didn't and was told they did, is this being confidential, it would alert the caller someone in the household had some concerns about aids which could lead to someone having to answer allot of questions.
This site provide answers to most questions one would ask the CDC and from people ( who shared the same experiences) who are very understanding and caring, of course this is not to say their aren't caring people at the CDC.
To the moderator should you read this, thank you for having this site, I am sure there has been people who didn't know where to turn and came to this site and read posts similar to their concerns or problems and was able to get thru some hard times, I know I did. Thanks to all who have participated in sharing their concerns and problems. Jon1970 :)

Jon... things must have changed over the years. I know it has been awhile since I called but I use to call on a regular basis. No one ever asked me anything about calling before. Are you sure the phone wasn't disconnected by accident. I would have called back to find out what happened and why. If that is their new procedure then I definitely have concerns, since that is somewhere we go for support and advice. I might need to do a little research and we all may need to do some serious complaining if that is what they are doing. They are a national hotline for a reason and if they don't want to help others then everyone should know how they are handling situations. Imagine someone calling for that reassurance to keep them going and they get hung up on... what happens then???!!! That is very disturbing and I will be making some calls later. I'll let you all know how it goes.

I called around the end of 2004 or early 2005, I have it documented, time and date somewhere hidden, I could find it if necessary. I am not sure if this was a one time fluke or the person made a mistake, but I definately was told I called before after telling them I didn't and they said words similar that I would be disconnected and the conversation ended. I hope this was a fluke on their part or I was ignorant of what they said, it has been over a year, but it sticks with me they didn't want to talk to me. As I said I was devastated that an organization like the CDC who is concerned about those infected and the spread of hiv/aids would disconnect me without hearing me out. I see commercials recently about knowing hiv/aids ( not exactly sure of the wording, but they are wanting people to get tested). There is so much fear in allot of people to get tested, they may take the attitude, that what you don't know won't hurt you, and when you get turned away from the CDC, probably the largest hiv/aids organization in the world, you tend not to trust other hiv/aids organizations who want people tested because they may feel the information they give about theirselves may not be confidential. Definately if everyone got tested who had a questional exposure, the spread of hiv/aids infections would slow down, so you think the last thing an agency like the CDC would do would be discourage people from calling. I truly hope this is not their standard practice for someone who calls more than once. May GOD give us the strength to endure our hardships and do what is right.
