Welp, I was on the bus today when I started feeling very nauseous. It was all I could do to not vomit. Soon my vision started fading out. Within a few seconds, everything was black. I was still completely conscious. I tried focusing on different things, turning my head to the bright outside and then away from it, and didn't notice any change in light, like the way you would be able to tell if the lights were on or off if your eyes were closed. During this time I was still fighting to not throw up.
The complete lack of vision lasted for a minute, maybe more, and then my sight gradually came back. As I got off the bus (I missed my stop while I couldn't see, so I got off at the next one), I noticed I was very wobbly, and couldn't balance well. Soon after, I started feeling better, and my vision came back to 100% within a minute or so.
A similar thing happened about five years ago, but I don't think my vision was gone for that long; if I remember correctly I couldn't see for about 10 seconds that time, and assumed I had just gone unconcious.
Last night, I drank alcohol, and was intoxicated. I'm sure the nausea is related to that, but the blindness? I've gotten sick before, but only lost my vision that one other time. I am a 21 year old male, and I am not on any medications.
Is a temporary, complete loss of vision not an uncommon thing for people who get nauseous, or do I have a problem?
Thanks,
Rammo

Have you seen aDoctor? Same thing happened to my son at your age , then a few years later we found out he had a brain cyst.

I would also have my doctor to check for hypoglycemia. It could have been brought on by the alcohol. I use to have black outs like that and the shakes real bad after drinking due to hypoglycemia. Best of luck.

When my daughter was 15 she was in the JR ROTC and they had them standing there for a long period of time and she hadn't eaten all day, she told me that she started feeling really sick, like she was going to throw up, and that as she was walking to the front of the class to tell the teacher she was sick, her vision grayed out and she was literally feeling in front of her, swinging her hands in front of her so she wouldn't walk into anyone because she couldn't see! So it sounds like a common thing with almost passing out. Like the other poster said, hypoglycemia could definitely do that. A drop in your blood pressure could too. But if it's the "blindness" you are concerned about, it was in relation to the almost passing out that caused it.

Have you been checked for Type 2 Diabetes?
Nausea, vision problems, etc. could be associated with blood sugar levels which could have been aggrevated by drinking
the comment on a brain cyst possible too. A cyst/tumor could place pressure on the optic nerve causing the vision loss which, in turn could cause nausea and loss of balance.
I'd get screened for Diabetes.

He said it happened FIVE years ago too, if it were a cyst it would have kept getting bigger and bigger and causing more problems, in 5 years I'm SURE he would have known that. No?

Get thee to a doc! Your vision is nothing to fool with. It could be a brain tumor, blood flow problem, diabetes, low blood pressure or even a mini stroke. What ever it is, get the tough stuff eliminated BEFORE its too late to do something about it.
I know its easy now to say it was nothing and its gone, so good. But it has happened twice now (assuming they are actually related) and it will happen again, perhaps when you are driving or on a ladder, so you can't put this off. If it is a tumor the sooner it is discovered the better the chance of a cure.

I agree, get to a doc.
It sounds to me like you were about to pass out, but didn't quite get there. Too, sugar levels could have dropped. DId you eat or drink something after that episode and then start to feel better? When I was on insulin if I didn't eat- I'd get sick to my stomach, shakey, sweaty and close to passing out...quickly relieved by eating something!
Are you stressed out at all lately? Panic attacks might be contributing.
I was at the dentist (which I HATE) and he was talking to me, back to me, and all of a sudden I just felt panicked. I wasn't so much afraid, I can't remember what I was thinking about. I just remember as he was talking, he kept getting more and more quiet, I started to get tunnel vision and was on the verge of passing out.

Definitely sounds like your sugar level bottomed out. No doubt the drinking the night before had something to do with it.
It is always good to see a doctor under these circumstances to ease your mind and take precautions, but I am fairly convinced this is what happened.

That happened to me before after a night of heavy drinking. It was quite a while ago but the next morning I sat up to walk to the bathroom and everything went black but I was still awake. It seemed like it lasted a minute at least. Large amounts of alcohol can effect the eyes like that. Back in the day of moonshine alcohol was illegal and the alcohol they made illegally was not regulated and people went blind from it sometimes because it was so strong. So even alcohol now days if you drink enough of it surely can cause vision problems.
