View Full Version : Does anyone get a bad stomach from Glucosamine/Chondroitin?

The side effects of this stuff are supposed to be nearly non existent but three a day with food is bothering me quite a bit. It reminds me of the same hot guts/achey stomach that Voltaren used to give me. Anyone else get this? I want to stick with it anyhow because I prefer the stomach discomfort to the joint pain. Does it get better after a while?Should I consider cutting it to two a day or would the lower dosage defeat the purpose. The bottle says three but I have a bad stomach due to years of eating Advil.

Hi Perry2,

I take Glucosamine/Chondroiten, triple strength. I used to take it 2 x day. But, only take it 1 x day now. I have been taking it for more than a year.

I take it at night, after my dinner. You need to be sure and take it, after you have eaten a meal, not just a snack! It is hard on your stomach. I have stomach problems too, but they say it will not do harm to your insides, just give you an upset stomach or acid indigestion.

I would cut it down to 2 x day, if I were you. But, I take other things also for my RA.

Hope your tum feels better.

Yes, my Rhumie declares it doesn't hurt the stomach but I can be in bad GUT trouble after only a few.........even the coated ones. I hate it because they really, really help me, but I can't go through the gut trouble...it makes me toooo much sicker.

ANYTHING can hurt ANYBODY................they (docs) don't have all the answers that they think they do. This rheumie has just put me through a terrible terrible time with my gut, with Lodine and Glucosamine.

I think I'm leaving the Rheumys and going back to the Internal Doc or a Naturpathist...........or whatever the word is that works with meds and alternatives. Can't pull up the name right now.............you know how that is...............
