Hey......I would like to share the note that was mailed, upon my request, from the doctor's office. I need a note to turn into work, and since I forgot to ask the doctor at my last (and only appointment before surgery), I asked the girl who scheduled the surgery if she could get one from him for me. This is what it says in the girl's writing......Name/DOB at top........"She is having surgery on April 7, 2006 and will be out of for one week after the surgery date."
This is signed with the doctor's stamp!
First it doesn't even says what I am to be out of....(I figured maybe I would be out of my mind for a week!!)
Can anyone in their right mind figure I would only be out of work one week from the surgery date???

Lori,

That made me laugh tonight and I needed to laugh. Just think you could be in the hospital for the whole time that you are off work. One day in the hospital recovering from major, major surgery (which is how my surgeon describes the operation), the next day back at work.

My surgeon--a woman--who knows that women overdo things--said for my job 6 weeks off then back part-time for a couple of weeks. I work in the schools and am on the go from the moment I step into the door.

Have a good weekend.

Lori ~ You are most definitely going to be out of work for more than a week following a Resection!!! I don't know what was on the girl's mind when she wrote out that note....it is obvious that she doesn't have a clue what a Resection is....she makes it sound as if you are having your tonsils removed!!!
for goodness sakaes....call them back and tell them that they must have gotten you mixed up with another patient and to send you the appropriate note.

Maggie is right.....this is major surgery and you will need the full six weeks and to take it easy when going back to work.

Lori,
Gee-- what sort of job do you have that it only takes 1 week to recover from colon resection surgery. LOL

I am retired and it took me that long to get out of the hospital.

Your surgeon must have been real busy to sign such a note---

God Bless~~~Harry

Eek!! I only got back to work part time 3 weeks ago after having my total colectomy in September. My GP says major surgery and dependant on your job it should be roughly 3 -5 months. Although my surgeon said 2 months to me!! The best thing would be listen to your body - its very good at telling you your limits.

Maybe she knows your boss... :D

You know how some bosses are, they want a 24 hour notice if you are going to be sick, or a 2 week notice before you die...

After some laproscopic resection, people are being sent back to work after one week, believe it or not. And not just the ones who WANT to go back that soon (they exist, believe it or not, and not just because the employer wants it).

Personally, I was happy for all the time I could be. And at the time (2000), the general recommendation was 4-6 weeks without complications.
