Sometimes at peri, women develop dry eyes. (As well as other dryness issues increasing). If you haven't seen an eye doctor, I'd do that, just to see if there is a problem with tear production. In the meantime, some artificial tears might help. Try to stay away from ones in bottles, or with preservative, as contamination can occur with the bottles, and preservatives can irritate. Look for individual vials with no preservatives, if you try them.
It may be peri, it can be allergy, caused by any meds you're taking (I tried HRT for one week and had this sore gritty feeling happen).
A good opthalmologist can identify any problems.

I have had this symptom recently but I am 3 years post.

My doctor said that I have developed a slight conjuntivitis and that it is probably viral and that it would go away on its own in a week or so.

However, after reading up on this condition, I know that there are other reasons for conjunctivitis and those can be bacterial or allergic. If it is bacterial, an antibiotic is required to clear it up.

If it is bothersome, you may want to see a doctor and get it treated if need be.

I've also been dealing with dry gritty eyes especially my left eye. It feels as if I have a grain if sand in my eye. I've dealt with allergies for years so I'm not sure how much of this is related to my allergies or hormones. There have been other women who mentioned this symptom as a result of peri/meno. One other symptom that I've noticed is that my eyes seem to feel really tired and almost like they are burning at times. I probably just need some artificial tears eyedrops. :)
