Why am I losing my hair everytime I wash it? And only when it's longish. :bouncing:

There are many reasons for hair loss. Stress is a big factor. It could also be due to insufficient nutrition/minerals, especially since you said you only have it when it's longish. Take some multi-vitamin or mineral supplements. They help a lot. You could also keep your hair shorter so they won't demand so much nutrition. Check your shampoo/conditioner to see if there are ingredients in them that could cause problems.

Age and lifestyle matter with this concern.

Hair loss is a symptom of hypothyroidism which is VERY common in women in perimenopause and menopause. Now, if you're in your mid 30's, don't think you're too young! Perimenopause symptoms often begin in your 30's, long before you would associate them with hormonal changes.

Also, of course, stress. If you're under much stress, (and who isn't!), you'll need more B vitamins than your multiple offers. A B-50 or B-100 Complex is a good way to go. There are also lots of great herbs to help with hair loss. And, essential fatty acids are just that... essential! That's your omega 3, 6 and 9 or Flax Oil. What a great difference EFA's make in your hair, skin and nails.

Hope this helps some.

Normal hair loss is about 100 hairs per day. If it's much more than that, then you might want to look into other possibilities. Unless that's the case, it's the hair's natural growth pattern. Hair always grows in three stages: growth, resting, and shedding. Sometimes more of the hair will be in the shedding stage. Once a hair reaches a genetically determined length, it stops growing. It's eventually shed, and a new hair begins it's growth stage to replace it. So, unless the hair loss is excessive, I wouldn't worry about it.

Us men don't have to worry about whether we'll have hair loss. If our father didn't have much hair, we probably won't either.....:-)

I'm not sure if your a male or female. I do know that the herb Saw Palmetto works similiarly to the hair loss drug Propecia. If you google "Saw Palmetto +hair loss" it will give you more information. Only take this if you're male because it's for the prostate. Stress is a huuuge factor in hairloss. Take a multivitamin and make sure you get plenty of rest. Zinc and b-vitamins are very good for hair care, just make sure you don't take too much. One thing that I would do is massage your scalp, this will increase blood flow. Not worrying about it is also another possitive thing (which may seem very hard), but worring about it causes stress, stress causes hairloss.. vicious cycle. Good luck!

Yes Stress can cause hairloss along with shredding of the hair.
I spoke to Dr Richard Lee a top hair doctor in LA about this.
He said the hair will grow back, or most of it in 9 months to a year if you get rid of the stress.
So the most important thing is to get rid of the stress.
I agree totally with Brian that when you think to much about a subject, it will lead to stress.
Thats exactly what happened to me.
I guess try to emerce yourself.
Think of something else in your mind, or try doing other things to not think about the subject thats bothering you.

Genetics playe a huge part here. If your mother had thinning hair as she got older...chances are, your going to have it too! I do. I keep my hair very long, just below my butt and at 51, my hair is really thinning in the front. I will eventually have to go to wigs. Sucks!
