Hi,
I was at Walgreens looking at some glucometers. There were several brands there one touch. Accu Free etc....
I am not sure which one is good, in terms of blood, pain and accuracy. Also, will my medical insurance cover if I were to buy the strip box of say 50 or 100.
Please advice.
Thanks.

They are all pretty much the same. Some offer results in 5 seconds, some take longer. Some have the ability for you to input carb information or other information. In my book, the one that uses the least blood and provides the fastest results I will go with. I have used just about all the name brand meters in my 23 years of being diabetic. As far as pain goes, they are all the same, sometimes you hit a nerve ending and sometimes you don't. You will want to check with your ins coverage to see if your meter is covered under you durable medical along with test strips. Your Dr. should write you a prescription (usually 30 day supply) based on how many times a day you check your blood sugar. So if you check your bs twice daily, for instance , then your Rx should be for 60 test strips. So when your Pharm fills your Rx you should only have to pay one co-pay for 100 strips (since they can not give you exactly 60 test strips). Of course that all depends on your pharmacy coverage. All the ones I have used (One Touch, Freestyle and others) have all been accurate except for Accu Check. Took two trips to the hospital and 2 seizures to figure out that my meter was reading 100 points off.
Hope this information helps.
