Here is another one of these studies that seem to come out daily saying that basically lowering homocystein levels does nothing to prevent cardiac events. Can be read at http://www.medpagetoday.com/Cardiology/AcuteCoronarySyndrome/tb/2836

I'm sick and tired of these studies. From now on I eat what I want in moderation. Today this Cardiologist on TV said that coffee is not all that good after all for people with high BP and heart problems, they came up with a "new" study finding out that its not the caffeine but something else coffee contains that can give people a heart attack if drank to much of it. And some people have a certain gene which does not agree with whatever coffee has besides caffeine. He named it, but I forgot. You can be tested for that gene. Give me a break! I drink my 2-3 cups a day without feeling anxiety, and I don't care what other stuff the coffee has besides caffeine. Yrs ago the coffee was bad for heart patients, then all of a sudden the coffee was good up untill recently, today I hear about this "new" stud, and again the coffee is bad for some heart and high BP patients. Forget it!

Agree totally , it has gotten to the point of absurdity with every daily study saying something contradictory to a study that had come out previously . It is going to come out the way the financers of the study want it to come out .

Study conclusions seem reasonable to me IF you are talking about patients who already have serious heart damage...as has any merit in the war on heart diusease, it must be done at the earliest stages, perhaps even before the arterial damaging process was initiated.

Incidentally the AHA hasn't yet ruled on whether or not homocysteine is an independent risk factor for heart disease.

Studies seem to say that IF you already have heart disease, folic acid and B-vitamins in ultra-therapeutic doses probably will not help.

My God U sound like me........ :D Between what we read, see on tv etc. etc. they are going to make us all NUTS!!! Like everyone else I want to try and keep a balnce of things, but everyday what was good for us last week is bad for us this week. As I have said before, I just give up and will do things in moderation, and if it isn't good enough, oh well, I tried!!

AS far as the guidelines, if they lower them anymore, I don't think there will be a living soul NOT on meds. for something. With hubby being in the hospital, I see so many different view points. Most of them say his BP is fine, even though his top number goes up a lil at times, they say it is no big deal, yet his reg. dr. gets wacked out if it is over 135. Like alot of folks, I too am sick of the NUMBERS game!! :p

Have a good one, and TTYL...

JJ, Did I understand from your post your husband is in the hospital? If so I am sorry to hear it. My computer crashed from old age so I am on a new one and trying to adjust to things being different. I missed reading the posts while I was gone and realized how much I like to be informed about what is going on out there in the world. If your hubby is in the hospital can I ask what happened?

Hi..It is a long story but will shorten as best as I can. On the 3rd he was having breathing problems and a temp of 102.9 so the VA wanted to see him in ER. First they thought it was pneumonia, or maybe his heart, but narrowed it down to an advanced case of the flu. Been running all sorts of tests, and have him on all sorts of meds. Biggest problem was they gave him Prednazone and it shot his sugar high, so between trying to level off the sugar and clear the lungs, it has been a balancing act, plus he got a Staph infection on top of everything else.

Now they are weaning him off the Prednazone but the sugar is still unstable, so he needs insulin till he is totally off of it. He was suppose to stay till tomorrow, but just called he is coming home today. Now he has to talk with the drs. about doing the insulin thing, but they will have a visiting nurse come in each day till he is off, cause neither of us are comfortable with doing it. Needless to say we are both exhausted, and hopefully we get all this right when he gets home. Man I am drained!!

Sorry about the puter, trust me, been there a couple of times myself. Oh well, I had best get my groceries put away as the phone could ring any minute. Have a good one, and good luck witht the new one. I'll post updates when I have time.

Enjoy the day, and TTYL....

JJ,

I hope your husband will get home soon. Try to get some rest. I know that is easier said than done. When my husband is sick I'm sick and worn out from worrying. Always think the worst. If the test can be fatal like 1 in 100,000 its my husband who will have the fatal test. I can't help it, I always think the worst. :nono:

Good luck to both of you!
Barb

Thanx Barb, we got him home. U should see my house, it looks like a pharmacy, but thank God alot of the stuff will be gone soon. Yup, alot of us women just have to be the worry warts. I think I have to get after his butt and get him into bed, he has been up and around way too much since he got home. He was actually sitting outside the hospital waiting for me, said he needed some fresh air...Geez, wonder why??? LOL

Oh well, can't wait till he tries to weed thru 12 days of emails, that should keep him busy for an hr. Once again, I thank U and all the folks on here for the well wishes, now it is time to get back to some kind of a normal life.

Take care, and will TTYS.....

JJ,

Glad to hear Hubby is finally home. Now you can catch up on your rest, and he can relax too...

Once he is back to normal, I hope he can cut back on the number of meds he takes.

I am one who believes that each medication has it's own side effects, and we sometimes get into a viscious circle of more and more meds, not to treat any underlying disease, but to counter-act the side-effects of the other meds we're on...

It's not healthy to be on too many drugs...

Get some rest!!!

I'm sooooo happy for the both of you that your husband is back home. :bouncing:

Barb

Thanx again Barb. I was looking over his papers given to him on release, and they definitely ruled out CHD, or anything with the heart. His cholesterol was pretty good, so except for the rise in sugar now from the drugs, guess when he is off them things will look even better.

Even though his cholesterol numbers are good, he usually has pretty high Trigs., so they are going to make a few changes in meds. after things are squared away. I brought it to the drs. attention that he takes 100 mgs. of Atenolol which I have read and also heard, raises not only glucose but Trigs. He said yes, it could be having an impact on them but will deal with that issue later on, a lil too much going on right now. Hey, at least the guy is willing to talk and give his views as well as listen to our's, so that was a plus.

Oh well, off to bed soon, this tired old lady needs rest. TTYS.....

Glad things are better J.J. He will do much better at home now... Hospitals seem to suck the energy out of everyone. Maybe in the morning you won't be a tired old lady anymore.. again good luck

Oh Lordy they sure do, especially when U are in isolation. The visiting nurse came this a.m. said he is doing fine with the insulin thing, thank goodness that will stop in about 12 days. He lost about 13 lbs. and naturally is a lil tired, but all in all, he is a pretty good patient.

Yes, I slept like a log, guess the ole nerves are finally calming down. Amazing how U just run on nerves alone at times. Oh well, slowly but surely things will all come together. Thanx for the wishes, and enjoy your day.....

JJ, So happy for you that hubby is home, he will get the rest he needs at home where it is quiet and can sleep. Plus you will rest better too I am sure. You take care of yourself too, it is easy to forget ourselves when our loved one is hurting. God bless you both and help you get through this. :)

Thanx, I just had to yell at him. LOL Poor guy is bored silly and has been up way too much today, so I told him either go lay down, or I'll restrain him to the bed. It's lousy when your not well enough to go like before, but not sick enough to want to be in bed. Oh yes, I am definitely doing things at a much slower pace, getting too old for a SUPER WOMAN routine........ :D

Hopefully by next week things will be even better. U take care, and will TTYL...
