well about 6 yrs ago my good friend told me her mom tested positive for hep c and she was really upset cus they had possibly shared razors. well she was tested and she was neg. about a month later she tells me her mom doesnt have hep c. the first test was a false positive. her mom was tested again and negative, the doctor told her to go on and live her life, she had nothing to worry about.....well to make a long part of this story short i started dating my friends brother, and now 6 yrs later we have two kids together. recently their mom has not been feeling right, she is really skinny and she doesnt know why, she says she thinks she might be lacking something, so she goes to the doctor. the doc says he wants to test her for hep c again, she is very upset over this because the doc she had seen before told her she definitly didnt have it. she is tested again and it shows up positive. she got a second test done, i dont know what kind but she is waiting for those results. what confuses me is; can you get a positive test and not have hep c? are false positives possible? my boyfriend is really upset, he says he has probably used her razors (i dont know why this family shares razors) which in the end puts me and my two kids at risk(i know its small) of having hep c as well. i dont understand. if she had it 6 yrs ago we could have been cautious. i remember telling my doc when i was pregnant with my first born that my babys father;s mom tested positive for hep c but she didnt have it???? and my doc said that didnt make sense but it wasnt my buisness so i left it at that and pretty much forgot about it all until a couple days ago when she told me she tested positive again. can somebody please explain this confusion to me??? is there still a chance she doesnt have it, whats the possibility of two false positives? i think she thinks this last test was false. i dont think she believes it. whomever got this far thank you so much, my mind is going crazy trying to figure this out =[

sounds like lots of things could have happened:

1. She could have had it and it went away (acute). Then got it again later.
2. The test was messed up. She had a false positive. Then a real negative and then got it later.
3. Test was messed up. She had a true positive then a false negative. Now a true positive again.
4. She had it and decided to hide it but now feels like its time to disclose it.

There is probably more possibilities.
