My son is 5 1/2 and he gets nosebleeds often, a few times per week or so. It usually starts on its own for no reason, and the last time was last week, and didn't stop until 30 minutes later. I thought maybe it was because the bedroom was dry, so I tried putting in a humidifier... he still gets them. He has seen his pediatrician and had blood tests done, they said something like his blood clots or platelets is elevated, and referred him to see a hematologist to find the cause of this. I tried googling around the web to see what causes it, I know one isn't a vitamin k deficiency because he gets plenty of that. I went through this when I was a kid too but they never found the cause of it, the dr. told my grandmother i would grow out of it. I have, but once a blue moon I still do get nosebleeds. My aunt went through this also, except hers was worse like she was in a horror movie, and my brother went through having nosebleeds also, but I'm not sure if he still does get them. I wondered if it would be possible it's something genetic? Since I couldn't find anything that matched his symptoms. Have any ideas what it could be that's causing him to have nosebleeds or if anyone has gone through this before?

Maybe you have found the answer by now, but hematologist should have tested him for von willebrands and other bleeding disorders.

When I was a child I had constant nose bleeds. I remember one time having my nose packed at the hospital because it wouldn't stop. The doctors never could find the cause and when I was about 15 years old the nosebleeds stopped.

My son has has the same problem and they said he has Hemophilia A. They claim it is mostly a male blood disorder and rare for females to have it but females are the carrier of the gene. It is a condition that keep him from clotting or slower to clot and it will make it harder for him to stop bleeding. Some call it "FREE BLEEDER". I don't know alot on this condition. I just found out my son has it about two weeks ago but for along time I knew something was wrong with him. He gave signs since he was around 3 or 4 years old.
