Hi, I am 25, will be 26 is a couple weeks..I just came out of a really bad realtionship, but I am doing fairly well mentally, etc. I am very happy for myself because I'm not depressed or laying in bed crying all day like I thought I would be lol. Anyway, I have been doing a lot of thinking about life in general, and the direction at which mine is headed. I currently live with my parents because the relationship with my ex left me in not a good financial situation. I have recently decided to get my teeth fixed which is something I have wanted to do forever. That involves braces, and jaw surgery. The total time for all this will be about 2 years. I don't feel good about the way I look at all, so I thought this would be a good time to do all that. I would have to stay living with my parents during this 2 years because all of this is going to be very costly. I don't want to date anyone because of the way I look.
I guess what I'm concerned about is that by the time I get everything done with my teeth and jaw, i'm going to be 28, and still living at home, and single. Is this dumb of me? I just feel like 28 is too old to be living at home. I also don't know if it's good for me to avoid dating for 2 years, but I don't really thing anyone would want to date a metal mouth lol.
What do you guys think of my life plan? is it ok? Any advice or thoughts would be much appreciated.

When I have to make an important decision like yours I usually make a list. One side lists the Pros and the other the Cons. You have to decide if having this done is worth the time, money and inconvenience of living with your folks. A lot of people find it difficult moving back home. Your folks could be the greatest or not.
If this will be your only opportunity that you know of to have this done and it is something that you will always look in the mirror and regret not doing, then you may want to do it.
My mother had braces in her 50s and an acquaintance had braces at 32 when she was married.
You could make this the two years of Amanda. Where you work on your teeth and do whatever you feel will improve Amanda inside and out! You are single with no kids so there is no better person to invest your time and money in then you. :)
As far as dating, I don't know if guys would be turned off by a metal mouth. Braces are very different now. There is not as much metal and more plastic/vinyl. There are even clear braces. You should look into the clear braces!

I think that you were quite strong to get out of a bad relationship. Many women aren't as lucky as you. I think that is amazing it itself.
If fixing your teeth makes you feel good go for it. I wouldn't worry about men for right now, don't look and they will come. As long as you are comfortable living at home (you don't get nagged at from your parents) go for it. It's an excelent place to save money, and get your spirit up. You should do what you need to to make yourself confident, and wait till you are there so you don't fall into another bad relationship. There are many people out there to talk to as well, and they don't have to be professionals.
Talk it over with your parents too, make sure they understand your goals, it will help as well!

I had to move back home with my 4yr old son when i got divorced. I worked 2 jobs so i could get out on my own...........as the money was rollong in, i had decided to do something that i had always wanted to do. I got breast implants. I felt guilty.............for awhile............but i felt this was my opportunity. It delayed me moving out.............but i actually saved money pretty quick and got out on my own! My self esteem was wrecked with my breasts.............i was very young, and had 2 children.............they were a mess! I am soooo happy i decided to do this. So i look at it as an opportunity to do something for you. If you can tolerate living at home then go for it!
