View Full Version : I think I might just cry... Please help me, girls!

OK, so I switched doctors because my previous doctor was very cold and inpersonalble. I found a doctor who is warm, not rail thin, and friendly.

Here's my problem:

My previous doctor was going to start me on Clomid becuase of failed Metformin (I have PCOS). But my NEW doctor is saying that because I am still young, and becuase Metformin has brought my periods back over the last 6 months or so, that I try using ovulation kits again, and that she really can't count the time we have been ttc as a whole year becuase my periods were not regular until recently. I was floored! We have been ttc since JUNE OF 2002!!! She says to try ovulation kits for the next three months as long as my periods stay "somewhat consistant" and if I am still not preggo by then, that she will try Metformin AGAIN.

Now, what do you suggest?

Should I suck it up and go with the more aggressive doctor, or stay with this doctor who put me back to square one? Please help me out. I would very much appreciate ANY suggestions you might have on what to do.

Thanks in advance.

This does sound strange... sorry...

I would change a doctor again ... (actually I changed 2 OBGYNs, untill I found the 3rd one that I liked and she recommended I go to RE ASAP)

Are these doctors regular OBGYNs? If so, it would be better to go a reproductive endocrenologyst.

good luck.

Yes, they are OBGYN's. The first is open to anyone, the second used to be open to anyone, but now only works OBGYN-type cases by request.

What is a RE, and how do they differ from OBGYN's? Are they typically coverd by insurance?

Thanks for the reply. It really helps to get a "real persons" opinion.

Switch. People with fertility challenges can't afford to waste time.

I agree. If you don't feel like your doctor is doing what is right for you and your future, I would switch. CHJH is right, when you are dealing with Infertililty, you can't afford to waste any time.

By the way, an RE (Reproductive Endocrinologist) is specialist in infertility. If you are able to find one, I would HIGHLY recommend it. They work with infertility and ONLY infertility, so that is your best chance of overcoming your infertility problems. If your insurance covers infertility treatments, the RE would be covered, as well. Good Luck to you!

If an RE is not an option, please tell your new doctor that you have major issues with going back to square one. Give him/her a chance to respond.

I Would Discus It In More Depth With Your Doc And Tell Them That You Really Dont Want To Wait And Wish To Get The Ball Rolling, If It Were Me Id Feel Like Crying Too, Infact Today I Did Just That Because My Appointment Which Was Scheduled For 3rd April Has Been Moved To The 10th And Im Out Of The Country And So Now The Only One They Can Offer Is 19th June And That Seems So Far Away :(

Good Luck And I Hope It All Goes Well For You :)

Thank you all for your responses. And SammieP, I'm sorry that your appointment has to be moved back.

But, I have good news. See my post "I have great news! (No, I'm not pregnant...)" I took your suggestions and did a little research.

Thank you again all.

Question may be ignorant, BUT, do you need to be referred to a RE?

It depends on your insurance really, not RE.

My OBGYN was going to give me a referral, but I happen to call the RE myself and got an appointment. I checked with my insurance first, and they told me I don't need a referral or pre-approval for that.
