Hi all:
Did anyone see HBO's Autopsy with Dr. Baden? The reason I ask is because one of the cases on the program involved a women poisoning her husband with pain meds/valium by injecting him while he was in the hospital. Dr. Badan said that this man died because the wife took these meds and diluted them with water and then injected them into his IV when noone was looking and the "fillers" in these meds caused a lung disease which wound up killing him. I remember discussions on these boards about, "fillers" in meds and I became concerned because I never heard of any warning about lung disease caused by these fillers. I think Dr. Badan said it was because the meds were injected that the fillers caused the lung disease, but, I'm not really sure if the fillers causes lung damage if just swallowing the pills. Anyone know?

Hi Samie, When you inject products like Talc and titanium dioxide and other fillers these don't break down in the bllood steam. I didn't see the show, but more than likely the fillers when injected would cause a blockage of some sort, If it didn't cause a clot to go to his lungs a glob of the crap meant to be digested by strong acids in the digestive system could have blocked an arteire and caused a heart attack or gone straight to his brain and caused a stroke. That's the danger of injecting non soluable materials in oral meds that are normally disolved by digestive secretions directly into the blood stream. If it didn't go to his lungs it could have gone to any other part of his body and caused a clot just as lethal. If you happen to have a valium, crush one up and add water and you will have something that looks like paper mache, You would need a large gage needle and alot of pressure just to get the crap into his system.
I have never heard of an oral med filler causing death when the med is used properly. The acid in the stomach can break down these materials where all you have is salt water in your blood to break down these chemicals. I'm not a doc but am confident in saying if you use the meds the way they are intended you won't die from a filler.

Hay Sammie, Just for grins I checked the full prescribing info for watsons generic Valium. It wouldn't let me cut the text out but in the first sentence it says that it's not soluble in water and the added goodies to clog your veins and hold the pill togeteher are cellulose and magnesim sterate. I'm sure it all makes a nice glob of crud that has to land somewhere. :eek: .
