I know that this was brought up in another post but MORE info has just dribbled out from the famous Cleveland Clinic which deals a great deal in heart related and cardiovascular problems.
Just heard the big news this morning that *350 patients were trialed with the strongest drug Crestor and that *2/3 of them had MAJOR plaque reductions from the Statin drug Crestor. The doctor and trial staff are submitting the medical finding and reports to the major medical associations. It was also mentioned that the Cholesterol numbers of the patients were very LOW, and THAT is the secretof plaque reductions which can only be achieved with Statins.

Thus, I bet, I haven't checked...that Crestor stock or anything to do with Crestor or other Statins will go through the roof !

Stumper,

CRESTOR's maker, ASTRAZENECA (AZN), has seen it's stock move nicely over the last 5 days...from about 46 to yesterday's close of 50.94.
Pfizer (maker of LIPITOR) had a slightly bad week, presumably on fears people will switch from LIPITOR to CRESTOR, or else CELEBREX is continuing to hurt them.

I'm glad I upped my LIPITOR to 20 mg. several months ago. My doctor said he NEVER had a patient report any untoward side effects at 40 mg. or below.

Fingers crossed on disappearing plaque...oops, I heard a muffled POOF...maybe another one?

Yes and the test was sponsored by crestor. The doctor who has had no side effects from Lipitor is either not looking , or does not prescribe very much lipitor.

Lenin,

Of course the possible GOOD side to this is that the price of Lipitor and other Statins may actually drop which would mean savings to yourself and others using them.
But even then if we can achieve the SAME results with Lipitor as you are and I am with Vytorin...then we can still reap the bennys of plaque reduction !

I have in my hands right now the Cleveland Plain Dealer at which the Crestor story is on the front page.
The study involved 349 patients over a two year period who took the maximum dose of Crestor.
The participants average LDL dropped from 130.4 to an unprecedented 60.8 Their HDL jumped from an average 43.1 to 49. Lenin, you and I are right about there ! :D

They used Intravascular ultrasound imaging and Nissen and his colleagues could actually SEE less plaque buildup !
The results surprized Nissen...

"I'm going to eat a little humble pie on this, because I had basically said publicly that I didn't think any degree of lowering of LDL cholesterol would regress disease, "Nissen said.
"The hypothesis was that if you got cholesterol levels down really low, you could keep new disease from forming but that you couldn't reverse what was already there."

A previous Clinic-led study announced in 2003 showed just that: High doses of the Statin Lipitor brought average LDL to a low of 79 and prevented plaque buildup from getting any worse. But the regimen did not scrub away existing plaque, as Crestor did.
The Crestor study included ONLY patients who ALEADY had coronary blockages !

Nissen also said that NONE of the patients in his trial suffered muscle damage, and that, overall, the drug appeared well tolerated.

Nissen and AstraZeneca (crestor) lied!!!! I have in my hand the full test of the study including charts and graphs. There were originally 507 participants in the study. THey only had 349 at the end. 62 of that number stopped because of adverse events. The CBS evening news touted that there were no adverse effects in the study group. Of course not...because astraZenaca pretended like those people didn't exist at the end of the study, just like they did for the three dead ones. (2 from severe cardiac events, and 1 more from cancer). Also included in "left out people" were 10 other myocardial infarctions, and 3 strokes. Maybe these would happen in a general population..but the point is AstraZeneca lied. It certainly did pump up their stock. Good thing too, because they just announced they will owe Merck 3.3 billion in 2 years to break up a partnership agreement.

Don't forget the most important fact. The voice-over in the Crestor TV commercials is done by Patrick "Captain Jean Luc Picard" Stewart. Warp Speed ahead!! :D

No adverse effects , yeah right . If I took that stuff I wouldn't be able to even walk after 2 years . 10 mg. of lipitor did my muscles and nerves in . Isn't it amazing how many amazing cures they keep finding for this stuff . This is the same drug that public watchdog wants pulled off the market.

So are you suggesting that the Cleveland clinic doctors are engaged in fraud? And that there was no plaque reduction in 349 individuals?
Remember that ALL of them had blockages...and surely many of them including some of the 349 were probably in the stroke amd myocardial infarction category to begin with ever before taking Crestor !

Come on now Finres.... :D Perhaps its time to eat a little humble pie.. :D :D

Well, perhaps that is you...but there are 349 individuals out there that are probably very happy hearing that they had plaque reductions without a knife !

Oh...and I forgot to mention...

IF Nissen lied then so did his colleagues and also Dr. Roger Blumethal, Director of Johns Hopkins Ciccarone Preventive Cardiology center.

I don't believe in Grand conspiracys :D ;)

Stumper... I didn't write the report, they did. I'm just telling you what the report said. As far as the cleveland clinic...hmmmm...what is it they said about crestor less than a year ago??? And grand conspiracy....gee, who's stock shot up?
