Hi. We just got the go ahead, the boeard of docs approved us for 1 cycle. They gve me a packet of birth control pills to start. But I'm confused. If I start them when I get my period, then when do the shots that I have to take start? I'll be calling the nurse tomorrow, but wanted to reach out here too. Any ideas?

Well, I think it's different depending on the clinic. I'm in my first cycle for IVF and I just finished my BCPs, I was taking them for about a week and a half. I started Lupron shots on Friday, (the BCP and Luporn overlapped for about 5 days) and I will continue taking them until retrieval but they will lessen when I start my follistim shots which is this Saturday, if all is going well. I was told it's about 10 days for each, give or take. (10 days BCP, 10 days Lupron, 10 days Follistim, and then the retrieval.) We may be close to each other's cycles, so please keep in touch! It's so nice to have IVF buddies!

I'm doing IVF now as well. Actually, I'm just about at the end. I had my egg retrieval March 13 and transfer will be March 18. The only injections I'm on now is Progesterone.
As far as the meds go, it depends on your clinic. I was on BCP for 3 weeks. I started Lupron while I was still on BCP. (the last days of it) I was on Lupron for 2 weeks before I started stims. (Gonal F and Menopur) After adding stims I was on Lupron and stims for 10 days. During this time you will have to go in for ultra sounds and bloodwork to see how your body is reacting from the stims. The nurses will check your E2 level, see how many follicles you have and if they are growing, and check to see how your lining is. Before you know it you'll be doing your transfer. Good luck!

Thanks so much for the replys. No matter how amnt times I talk about all this with my sister or my mom, it's not the same as when I'm logged in here. Definately not there fault, but they didn't have to get so educated on a topic that I'm sure we would rather have skipped ourselves. Today is the 19th in the A.M. ans I'm still waiting for my period so I can start the bcp. I go the 24th for my injection lesson. My supply of shots, vials and the rest should be arriving here the early part of this week. It sounds like 2 shots per day, prenatal vitamins, bcp, and possibly some other ones too. So much to keep track of. I did some reading on accupucture and scheduled 3 visits per week starting this week. Since this is our one and only chance, I'm going full steam with this. I sure do hope all here at Healthboards have success.
