View Full Version : Had my Ultrasound...

And now I'm stressing out over the results. I had both a pelvic and vaginal. The worst part is that now I am "reading" into everything the woman was doing - every movement, every pause - and it's making me NUTS! She told me she didn't see any fibroids, but that was all she said - then she was quiet as she did the vaginal ultrasound. When she was done, she said, "Okay, that's enough. The report will be done today and the doctor will have it in a day or two". This is how bad I am - yesterday, the doctor told me to call her a week after my appointment (she didn't know when it was going to be and didn't tell me to get it done ASAP - there just happened to be an opening today), and so when this lady told me that the doctor would have the report "in a day or two", I"m thinking they are rushing it up to her because it is so bad! I think the reason for this is that last year I had a CT Scan of my pelvis and abdomen, and didn't expect to hear for days, but the doctor called me two hours later, saying they saw something on my pancreas (which turned out to be nothing). So now I"m "gun shy" and scared to death that the phone is going to ring today or tomorrow with bad news!

I keep telling myself that she felt nothing abnormal yesterday - with the exception of a "slightly" enlarged uterus, I have always had an annual (normal) pap, and that, since I did have that CT scan a year ago, there can't be anything THAT bad, but it isn't working to calm me down. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi there, I can relate to you so much, I'm the same. I have severe health anxiety, tests put me over the edge. I have to medicate myself just to go! I think that you are just fine. If something was wrong your doctor would have received the results the same day and you would have gotten a call. You have regular check ups and you've had a CT, anything would have shown up at that time. I have three fibroids and an enlarged uterus the size of a five month pregnancy, I'm living with it as I have no symptoms. Have a chamomile tea and take a deep breath, all is well.

Thanks so much, Mary. What we do to ourselves! The mental anguish is almost worse than any physical ailment!!

I was just done this morning, and, as I work out of my home, I have the phone right next to me. Every hour that goes by, I will feel a little better. Of course, maybe it is Dr. Jones's day off.. Here I go again...

I had an ultrasound a couple of years ago just to rule out problems (I'd been having severe cramping for a few years). The person who did the procedure basically didn't say anything, which is probably the norm. IF they had, I'm sure it would have been sent to the Dr. right away and you would hear very shortly. The fact that they said "a day or two" sounds to me like there's nothing urgent.

My experience with medical people (dr's, nurses, etc.) is that they just don't realize what we go through when we are waiting on results! Hand in there!

Thank you, Katidid,

I know what you mean about them not realizing what we are going thru. This woman was very nice, and had been doing it for 30 years! I'm sure she has learned to keep her mouth shut, so as not to incriminate herself. I think I had heard that they are not allowed to say anything. Have I mentioned that I am not a good "waiter"???????

Hi,
I worked in doctors offices for years, and the one thing I learned is that you have to be persistant about getting your test results. NEVER assume everything is normal because the doctor or his nurse didn't call you back. Hundreds of test results come into a doctors office everyday. 99% of the time the doctor sees the result, calls or has his nurse call. Sorry to say, but some results, even the "not normal" ones can get misplaced or misfiled into someone elses chart without anyone seeing it but the file clerk. Always call for you test results if you don't hear in at least 48 to 72 hours. It's rare that the doctor wouldn't have it by then. We must be advocates for our own health, medicine has become a big business, doctors see so many patients that they forget how nervous patients get waiting for results. Ann
