Has anyone been offered an explanation as to why people with GERD can get all these aches and pains, lump in throat, soar throat, cough, etc without getting actual heart-burn. For years my only symptom of reflux was heart-burn, then suddenly it went away and was replaced with all these other things. For the next week I'm off all meds for reflux in prep for a 24 hour PH monitoring, so we'll see if the heartburn returns. But why if the acid is reaching my esophogus am I experiencing all the other symptoms but no "heart-burn" which is noticably different from all these other pains???

Anyone have any idea or been given an explanation that makes sense??

Interesting topic - one I've wondered about myself. I have NEVER had heartburn, yet have been diagnosed with a small hiatal hernia and reflux, after an endoscopy in September.

My discomfort was stomach bloating, diarrhea, pain in the breastbone area, feeling naseaus, etc.

I hope someone has an answer. I've looked online but haven't found anything. I have a doctor appointment on Tuesday, I'll ask then.
