Has anyone been implanted with a vagus nerve stimulator device?
I've known about this being a "cure" for epilepsy (and some other disorders) but I have never spoken with someone who has actually had this procedure done.

Hello, yes I had have a VNS implant. I got it in Nov. 2004 after trying several medications either without success or severe side effects. It has helped I believe. I don't believe it's a cure for epilepsy but I think it can really help. I have reduced my meds. a lot and even thou I still have seizures I don't usually have nore than one at a time(I used to have 4 or 5) and they are not nearly as severe. It does have a cumulative effect. The longer you have it the better it works. Are you thinking of getting one? If you have any further questions I would be happy to answer them.

You can checkout their website at cyberonics.com or call them at 888-VNS-STIM. I don't have the Vagus Nerve Stimulater but my neurosurgeon said it's the next thing he wants to try. Good luck and you'll be in my best thoughts. Jeff
