Hi group! I'm curently taking 800 mg nuerotin tid. It helps a lot with my nerve pain, but i get bad mood swings, and i hear lyrica is a good nerve pain med. Just wondering if anyone has switched from nuerotin to lyrica,or anyone can give me some feedback on it,and tell me how well it works for you,etc..
Thanks madhatter.

I switched from Nuerotin 1800mg a day to Lyrica 300mg a day a few months back and found that Lyrica was definatly the most helpful of the two with regards pain relief; however I found I put loads of weight on with Lyrica. That's my only gripe.

I was just switched from Lyrica 300mg to nuerotin 600mg yesterday. Couldnt handle the side effects of the lyrica. Didnt have the weight gain after the first few weeks but once they bumped me up to 300mg a day I was very confused and very tired. I have heard that the nuerotin will do the same thing but the doctor says all I can do is try it and see how it goes. He is willing to give me a nerve block on that right side but told him I wanted to wait a few more weeks and see if the left side starts hurting again. Had an injection about 5 weeks ago and have been basically pain free on the left. Just trying to get over the right side nerve pain....

good luck on the lyrica. I have to say it did help at first with the nerve pain... :)

you're on a low dose of Neurotin, ask for a higher one before trying something else.

Mad, I meant that to Robin

Hi madhatter :)

I'm on 300mg of Lyrica and it really helps my nerve pain but just like Blasterboy stated it puts weight on. I went from 180# to 220# after being put on Lyrica 300mg in 4 months.

I've just really exercised a lot cardio wise and eat a very low calorie meal plan. I'm down to 208# now but still have 28 more pounds to get back down to my sexy body of 180#. :D

I know I know.... I sound like a girl but I'm a guy. I'm obsessed with having a hard, firm tummy and sexy thighs. :p

I was on 100mg Lyrica 3x a day and it really help w/nerve pain. Then I started to have some kind of "mystery illness". I had a lot of pain under my ribcage, couldn't wake up at all, and felt really sick all of the time. I spent 3 weeks in bed and got to the point where I couldn't even take my meds--voila--I got better.

Then I got routine bloodwork done and all of my liver enzymes were elavated. Meanwhile my PM Doc had been nagging me to go back on the Lyrica--which he ADMITTED was the med that had made me sick (he suggested a lower dose). My regular Doc said "No Way. Not until 6- 8 weeks and we repeat the bloodwork and see of the enzymes to see if they've gone back to normal."

The PM's concern is that Lyrica + Methadone is THE MOST effective pain reliever in his bag of traicks right onw--especially for those who have long term pain and for whom tolerance is an issue,
Mya

thanks for info Blasterboy... Will talk to my PM doc when i see him again. I am now getting some relief on the nuerotin but not all day. doc wants to me to take 1 300mg a day for the first week and then build up to two a day after that so maybe it will get better.

He did mention that if the shots and meds seems to be wearing off in a month or two that we would look at doing a spinal cord stimulator. Do any of you have this and does it help? And is it a major surgery like a fusion? Out of work awhile? We didnt really get into all that yet he just mentioned it when I was talking about the nerve blocks...

have a great day!

that's out of my League Robin, Shoreline is the resident info-master on that type of question, hopefully he'll pick up on this thread and respond to it for you, if not post a new one in a few days.

:bouncing: hi.. the pain in my low back where I had surgery is back the way it was before my last injection. And still hurting on the right side that the lyrica and nuerotin were supposed to take care of. So called my doc and they have scheduled another injection on friday for both sides not jsut the left. Hope they help. I have to say it is a different pain than what I had before surgery so hopefully once things finish healing this will all settle down too. we will see..

I take 2700mg of neurontin daily and the side effects slowly went away.

Good luck.
