I've read in the posts that eating chocolate is bad if you have GERD. Are people referring to chocolate candy bars that have alot of butter or would this include anything made out of cocoa? I've bought lowfat cocoa and wanted to make a hot chocolate to drink.

It's probably the caffine in the chocolate that's bad, rather than the fat. On a GERD diet no caffine is allowed, not even decaf because it still retains some caffine. Chocolate has caffine in it.

Your question reminds me of a little story my father in law told us a few years back when he was having acid problems. He asked his doctors what foods he should or shouldn't eat. The doctor, a little perplexed, asked him "How old are you?" To that he told him his age. The doctor then told him, "No disrespect sir, but if you don't know by now what bothers you and what doesn't bother you, then I can't help you." He was joking of course, but his message was, try it and if it doesn't agree with you then don't try it again.I've read in the posts that eating chocolate is bad if you have GERD. i'm not happy to hear this about cocoa. Otherwise I don't eat or drink anything with caffeine even before these stomach problems except hot cocoa.

Have you tried white cocoa? I seem to be able to tolerate that better than traditional cocoa. I still can't drink it often, but as a treat once in a great while.

I'd stay away from all chocolate, cocoa included.

It stinks not being able to eat or drink chocolate - I surely do miss it, too!
