I never had much problem with foods and them affecting baby. DD was really colicky from 4 weeks old until 12 weeks old. I watched mt foods carefully (oranges & tomatoes were big in mt diet then), but I found it didn't make a difference for me. Only thing I noticed that affected baby was taking in too much caffiene.

I also had to cut out all dairy and caffeine. They make a huge huge difference in my son.

I have not ate anything that bothered my dd that much, but I do steer away from caffiene. I also heard to limit dairy, spicy foods, foods that can cause gas, and citrus foods like oranges. I was also told not to eat onions, but I don't like them anyways!

I would avoid the usual caffeine and alcohol but I wastold by dr's and a lactation counselor that you can eat pretty much anything. If you were eating spicy food/dairy/exotic foods while pregnant, the tastes are in the amniotic fluid so your baby will probably be unaffected by them. However, the lactation counselor did mention that if your baby isn't feeding as well or seems extra gassy, cut out those foods that you notice make your baby that way. She also said if you eat things with strong flavors that you don't eat often, your baby may have an adversity to that (ex:asparagus) then just avoid strong flavored foods.
I personally eat EVERYTHING. I eat lotsa spicy foods, cabbage, onions--pretty much everything they tell you NOT to eat...and my son is fine.
