I am not sure how many of you have heard of this but I know someone who has went through this new procedure, it is extremely expensive costs about $17,000 for both eyes and there is only 2 eye doctors that can do this surgery. Health insurance will not cover it as it's so new but the man that under went this procedure is doing extremely well and is almost completely cured from his eye problems. Amniotic Membrane Transplant is when you take the membrane tissue from a healthy female after she's had a baby. They take the tissue from the amnio sack and preserve it somehow, they make sure that the female of course is disease free. They take the tissue and place it over the cornea where the conjuctiva is torn, has ulcers or is no longer able to function properly.
This guy that had this done had severe dry eye and along came a "wrinkled conjuctiva" he had almost too much of it and it was extremely uncomfortable for him, if he moved his head from side to side he could see the conjuctiva wrinkling in his eyes, his eyes were blood shot 24-7 from the severe dry eye and he heard of this new operation, had it and is almost totally recovered with no more eye problems. It's almost like a skin graph, it replaces your conjuctiva with healthy fresh tissue.
So those of you with Filamentary Keratitus like Jonny who are suffereing so badly might benefit from this procedure? It would totally give you instant relief as the membrane covers your conjuctiva, you would no longer feel those tiny pain sticking needles in your eyes and as the amnio membrane sat on your eyes it would heal your conjuctiva, the only downfall of this operation is that its so expensive and relatively new, but to let you know I know of one guy who had it done and he's extremely happy and now living a life without eye trouble!!!!
I will post more on this subject later on as I have taken most of my morning posting lol, but if you haven't heard of this I thought I would let you all know who suffer from FK that this would be highly recommended for you, the guy that had the surgery didn't have FK, but suffered enough that he had it done. $17,000 for both eyes might be worth it rather than to have to suffer with that horrible pain, also you can make payments lol, they don't require the full $17,000 right there:) I will post more on this later this evening. Ciao D
