For the last 2 weeks my jaw has been causing me a lot of problems :( . I have no idea what's going on!! I should back track a bit to give a little bit of history. I was in a car accident 4 years ago and I tore my shoulder and got a bad whiplash. I had a lot of headaches and neck pain at the time but I didn't have any really severe problems with my jaw till a while after. I was diagnosed with TMJ by an orthodontist and my chiropractor. Since then my TMJ problems have progressed but they haven't bothered me as much as they are now. It was a couple weeks ago when my jaw and ear started aching worse than ever but the weird thing was that the side of my face looked swollen. I've been having problems with allergies lately too and I already had an appt. with my allergy doctor so when I was there I asked him about the swelling in my face. He agreed that my face looked swollen and he checked my ears and throat but he said everything looked clear and there was no sign of infection. He put me on an antibiotic as a precaution and he wants me to go for a CT scan of my sinuses. What I want to know is if TMJ problems closely resemble sinus or ear problems. I feel like there's pressure behind my left eye and my left ear feels like it's full of water and it keeps aching. Sometimes it's just a dull ache but other times I'll get up from doing something at work and my ear/jaw/side of my face starts to throb and I feel dizzy. On top of all this I've been having some major vertigo. Does this sound like TMJ? I don't know what to do. I'm going to go crazy from this and my CT scan isn't for another week yet ..I don't know what to do until then.

In a word yes it could all be your TMJ. Mine makes my ear always feel full and sometimes my right sinus feels blocked but not really congested. I also often feel dizzy. More of an "out of it" type dizzy and sometimes feel like Im gonna pass out which gets really scary. Because of the dizziness I often cant hold my head up myself i feel i must rest it on something....really has ruined my life =(

I went back to the allergist today. He is sending me to an ears, nose and throat specialist. He didn't say much more about my jaw/sinus condition except for that my jaw is really "poppy":. He wants to see me after the CT scan of my sinuses. In the mean time I guess I'm just supposed to suffer cause I don't have anything for pain other than advil.
