My DD (6 weeks old) has what looks like cradle cap in/on her left ear..? She does not have this anywhere else. It is dry, crusty and yellow looking skin on her little ear lobe all up and down and just slightly inside her ear. Since it's not on her scalp could it still be cradle cap or is it something else? It looks awful, and I was wondering what will make it go away? I've been trying hard not to pick at it b/c I don't want it to get worse. Any advice? Thanks!

Not sure if it is cradle cap or not but it sounds like it. My ped. said to use hydrocortisone cream on it. You might want to try that and see if it goes away. I know what you mean about trying not to pick at it and make it worse!

This is going to sound like a rude question but it's really not meant to be. Could it be a little spit up or a result of some milk that has run into the ear? I only ask because that happened to Ds one time. He had a major throw up one night while I was feeding him and since it was dark I thought I'd gotten it all cleaned off. When we got up in the a.m. there was yellow, crusty gunk all over around his ear. Scared the heck out of me until I remembered that some had probably run down his face and into his ear when he threw up. It's actually surprisingly hard to clean off after it's dried.

Celestine...Thanks for replying! No, it's not spit up or milk because the other day I wiped all the flakes off and the next day it came back. But I know what you mean b/c DD always seems to have dried milk on her chin that I'm wiping at...lol. I'm going to try the hydrocortizone cream and see if that works. If not, she see's the Dr. soon anyways!
