ok, so here is the thing. I live in an apartment-like dorm where we all have rooms and then share a common room and kitchen. This means I am limited on what I can eat-- in regards to refridgerator food. So, if you were only given a small space (i am talking take one of those mini fridges and take the top shelf and i have 1/3 of that! oh but I have most of the freezer) what would you buy for the week? Like what would you get that you could store in the fridge and cabinets that would provide you with 2-3 meals a day for a week. I am looking for healthy things and I have a grocery story that is very good right next to me so chances are if you don't think i have an item-- i do.

mind the cost, i am a student hah.

I'm in a very similar situation - so I went out and bought my own mini fridge i can keep in my room. That way I can keep pretty much whatever I want. You can buy them for like $75 now - I think mine was on sale fot $69 when I got it.

i have been in that situation for the past 3 years- i alwasy stock up on fresh fruits , eggs, oatmeal, nuts, frozen veggies, potatoes, cheese
dont get frozen meals as they are high in sodium, stick to the most fresh goods you can...basically anything is microwavable otherwise good raw..ive learned that in college...haha..
good luck

Prague,

I used to live in my own apartment, and I liked to buy fresh fruits, fresh veggies, some lean meats (although I'm starting to think more and more about becoming a vegan, as I don't like the idea of ingesting steriods and other antibiotics) and the occasional microwaveable meal...hey, sometimes you don't feel like cooking :p .

Anywho, I enjoyed making blended fruit drinks. They tasted GREAT and they kept me full for little while. I also liked to cook foods the night prior, store them in the fridge, and have them ready for the next day. It worked pretty well. I can' wait until I can do that once again :D .

Good luck and HAVE FUN!! It's awesome living on your own :) .

hey
i'm in that situation too, i've found that its hard but it is v.manageable to eat healthily with only limited space, it just takes planning.
i buy things in small amounts a few times a week, like fresh fruit and veg, becaus it goes rotton before i have chance to eat it if i buy in bulk once a week. for breakfasts i have oatmeal with nuts, dried aprictos, prunes etc. in. all these things are cheap and dont go off very quickly.

oatmeal, brown rice, wholewheat pasta and cous cous make up my carbs pretty much, i also get cans of kidney beans and chick peas which last for ages and are good on a budget (about 30 pence a tin in england wahey!), frozen vegetables for quick easy things to go with meals and dried spices to make things taste nice :)

in the fridge i keep milk, cheese, jam sometimes, most other things i keep in my room or in my cupboard.

try making your own soup, its v.simple and i often make it and freeze it so it lasts the week.

thats all i can think of right now...but good luck.
