Ortho Evra is just as effective as other methods of hormonal birth control. It also has the same side effects (both positive and negative) as other hormonal birth control methods, so it may lighten your cramps and menstrual flow. There is also the same potential for negative side effects as well.

You're exposed to about 60% more estrogen using the patch vs. most birth control pills.

the studies are not final on the patch.. one study says you are, one says you aren't. They way the estrogen is given is so different it's hard to directly compare the two. I was on the patch for a year until switched to something else and I had not negative side effects. The lower the estrogen the better though since higher estrogen can give you a higher chance of blood clots.

I was on the patch for almost a year. Besides the nasuea and the TERRIBLE HEADACHES, it is the dream bc for me. I didn't gain any weight, and loved only having to change the patch once a week; however, I found it didn't stay on in the hotubs, and if i wore it with a thong, my jeans would make it roll up and fall off. After 2 months or so, my headaches subsided temporarily. Then, about 6 months later they were so bad i'd have to call into work, and one day while I was at home with my headache, i saw on the news some 24 year old mom just died from blood clots from the patch, with more searching, i'm finding this is the long term effects. Just a warning, it was enough to scare me off, try googling it!

I was on the Patch for a year. I was on it to reduce the cysts on my ovaries. It didn't help! I had more ruptures! The only good thing about it is that my face cleared up, I had none compared to the few I had before. I did have a lighter period toward the end with some small clots. Until I got off of it. That was the worst. I was off of ortho evra right before all the scare came out. I had a horrible time getting off of it, I bled constantly for a month straight, so heavy and full of huge clots. It was difficult for me to keep a Super tampon in, infact I wore both a tampon and a pad to avoid accidents. Sorry if its TMI.
Ortho Evra does have 60% more estrogen then the pill. This means if you have a family history of stroke, blood clots, heart acttack or blindness, (I beleve there are more) you probably shouldn't choose it. I hear of people who like depo provera and the ring. IF you do a internet search of Ortho Evra side effects, you should come up with a pdf page with the chemical diagram on the front. If you skip to the end it should give you more information. Also search for Ortho Evra black label (thats the additional warning that is suppsoed to be placed on all information associated with Ortho Evra)
Good Luck! Hope I helped!

hi I was on the patch for 2 days when I started feeling really bad. I passed out then passed out while I was driving and I hit a tree and had serious problems. I would edvise you not to use it. I am currently in a lawsuit over it. So be careful. Hope this helped.

I was on it for 1 1/2 years and towards the end, it would make me throw up constantly. As soon as I removed the patch, I felt a million times better. I tested it out for another month after that just in case it was a fluke, but it happened again. It's such a no-hassle bc option but it just wasn't worth it for me.

The thing is, i dont really think its that the patch HAS more estrogen... its just that instead of being processed by your other organs first like oral contraceptives... teh hormones are given to you transdermally (Through the skin) and they get to where they're needed faster and more efficiently.
Also, EVERY pill is different, so im sure there are higher concentrations of hormones available than the patch.
I just was on the patch for a month.... had absolutely no problems with it... however I went off because i just found it actually MORE inconvienent than the pill... the patch was always kinda falling off or getting caught on my clothes ... edges lifting, etc... It was hard to find a good place to put it because I go to the beach a lot and swim heaps and i didnt want it showing all the time etc... so to me, that was more the disadvantage.

My mom is a gyno and she hates the patch, shes had four of her clients get blood clots b/c of it and one had to have surgery to remove it. Its definately not worth the risk!
